HP Photosmart Prem C410 Unable to print - not able to connect wireless

[ Edited ]

Initial setup of my HP Photosmart Prem c410 printer -- cannot connect to my wireless network. The password is good. There is no MAC address filtering on my wireless router. Help. ;-)

Charter Internet router connected to an AT&T Model 6800G wireless router.

Re: HP Photosmart Prem C410 wireless network connection

OK, I figured it was a DSL router, but wanted to be sure.

DSL routers are rather non-standard, so we have to relieve them of some control during the printer installation:

1. Unplug the phone line to the router.

2. Restart the router by pulling its power plug out of the back momentarily, then plug back in.

3. Wait for the router to restart.

4. Install your printer, including software on your computer.

5. When the printer is installed and working, plug the phone line back in the router.

6. Restart the router again.

Re: HP Photosmart Prem C410 wireless network connection

Thanks, I can try that but I don't have DSL. I'm just using an AT&T wireless router(given to me)  which is connected to a Charter router via a network cable and the Charter router is connected to a coax / cable connection. I'd prefer not to have my printer connected to my PC. Please advise. Should I still do the steps you indicate? I don't have DSL. Thanks

Re: HP Photosmart Prem C410 wireless network connection

I have temporarily connected the printer to my computer and have installed and downloaded all software onto my PC. But long term I don't want the printer connected to my PC. Put it in my basement out of sight, etc. Thanks

Oh, well, follow the instructions, only don't bother with the phone cord instructions (but restart the router as instructed).

What kind of encryption are you using (WEP, WPA, etc)?

Thanks. Will do. Got to drop for a sec while I unplug my wireless router. My PC is attached. I am using WPA. Thanks

Re: HP Photosmart Prem C410 wireless network connection

Ok, unplugged wireless router, plugged back in, still can't connect to my wireless router. The wireless network test report says it fails on No Filtering, indicating that my wireless router has filtering turned on. I'm pretty sure it doesn't  since I have recently logged an ipad and other devices without adding them to the wireless router. Please advise. Thanks

Re: HP Photosmart Prem C410 wireless network connection

Called the 800 number for tech support. While landing on maybe an older wireless router and perhaps driving towards getting a newer one, somehow as I returned to the printer, it was connected?? Not sure how. I really don't care now. email printing, remote printing from my pc and ipad2 -- very cool. It all works now!!! Thanks for all the HP help, online and on the phone. Very cool device. Signing off.   Dave
