Thanks, I was able to set it to wireless G mode using the URL modification you described. So far it's working OK in this mode.
I see the 802.11n advanced settings are revealed also (but greyed out). Is there a way to set them?

The C309g-m {Confidential content removed} was H-P's (and the industry's) first 802.11n wireless printer. When my Wi-Fi team started the project, the 802.11n standard was still in draft form.
Since I wasn't sure what controls were needed for Wi-Fi certification or what interoperatbility issues I might have to work around in the future, I had a number of advanced controls put into the printer's internal web pages.
We completed Wi-Fi certification without needing most of the advanced controls so I had them disabled. And as my knowledge of the 802.11n standard grew, I realized that most interoperability issues could be solved with the just the 802.11b/g switch.
There's no joy in enabling any of the advanced controls (you'll just muck up the network) and I don't believe they're all functional (I know 802.11 power-save wasn't wired up yet).
On the other hand if you want to experiement, you'll have an easier time modifying the Wi-Fi radio FW on a Linux distribution.

I recently decommissioned an HP Deskjet 6988.
It printed my checks and thousands of others, using only the usb connection, until it fell off the desk ( I didn't ask how).
The usb cable was pushed inside and the socket and pins were bent, so I pronounced it dead and replaced it. I brought the old unit home and couldn't get it to print a test page or move the paper at all so again I pronounced it dead.
Being curious I popped open the cover above the buttons and removed a wifi card, hp p/n 1150-7910, "PCA RADIO SATURN 802.11b/g ROHS" according to another post here. It had an unused usb connector on it, so being the curious guy that I am, I plugged the card into my desktop usb port. Windows XP immediately saw it as a wireless interface, but couldn't find a driver. Any suggestions? I googled "PCA RADIO SATURN 802.11b/g ROHS" but only found the original post on HP.com.
I would like to use this as the interface for my desktop instead of the cable running across my living room.
Thanks for any help you can offer, but a driver would be awesome!

That's our 3rd generation 802.11g radio module and if I remember correctly it uses the Broadcom 4329 radio.
Try Binging (I workd for Microsoft now -- so use Bing!) for "Broadcom 4329" and see if you can find the driver. if not, I can get you an older, no warranties driver, by sending me your email address via a private message (don't post it here).
BTW -- that module was the last of the 5V module boards. Later modules use 3.3V for the USB Vbus. Plugging those later modules into a PC would destroy the module.

Hi, Jim.
Am using a different router, the same printer, and am seeing the same problems. Am using Sitecom 300N gear, which works perfectly fine for the connected PCs. Added a repeater for the second floor systems.
Connected my printer to the repeater, and while installation has been a breeze, it works like the people describe: disconnects a lot, loses packages, occasionally prints gobledegook, doesn't show ink levels, sometimes can't connect to scan, etc., etc. The usual list of complaints. Very frustrating.
Took out the repeater, saw no improvement. Made sure I had all settings correct, including your recommendations (BTW: my info page doesn't show the "use 802.11b/g behavior", but just "802.11b"). Anyhow, still no luck.
Am getting a bit exasperated, as I believe the printer is just fine (HP's helpdesk spent hours with me on the line, and we couldn't find anything wrong with the unit), but seems to be choking on wireless network behavior.
Any additional insights you can share, Jim.....??
Many thanks!
Lex D.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:
- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you know what that is, set an IP outside that range but no higher than 254 (the last number in the address). If you do not know this, enter the current IP address.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Leave the gateway and DNS blank. Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Hi -
I have had a Linksys E3000 set up in my home network for a few months with all kinds of wireless devices connected - no problems. I just set up my HP C309g-m today and was experiencing VERY slow wireless printing, as if the printer was thinking between each line. I tried the troubleshooter, resetting, rebooting, etc.. with no luck.
Then, I used your "secret switch" solution by selecting b/g behavior in an infrastructure setting, and the printer started printing at a normal speed right away. Yea!
Maybe you could post this solution somewhere where it's easy to find, as it took me a while to get to it?
Thanks!

I too experienced the slow printing issue...and losing connections. I have the C309m-g printer and a Linksys E3000 router.
I tried all the suggestions on this post and no luck.
I continued to google and found a post (sorry did not bookmark it) where the person indicated on the Linksys router setting the 2.4 MHZ channel up with a separate SSID. I did that. The change seems to have worked. Our printer has stayed connected overnight; I was able to print to it this morning no problem.
U will need to got to the config page of the router by ip address and change the SSID for the 2.4 MHZ setting...be careful...if your laptop/PC is B/G only u will loose connection.
Hope this helps

I have tried all sorts of things to fix the printing slowdown. The normal solution is to power off then on again.
Windows XP, Windows 7, it did not matter.
Then the secret solution of going to the advanced page of network on the printer's webpage with &support=on, and selecting in an infrastructure use 802.11g/b behaviour, then power cycling.
So far, my photo prints have gone through at a good speed - the normal dead slow after the 3rd photo has gone.
I hope that normal printing from a web page will now be good, and not degrade into chucking out loads of paper with a couple of lines of meaningless text.
Thank you so much.
