Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

Oops -- sorry, forgot to tell you about my secret switch.

Browse to the printer's internal web page again.  In the address line, add ?support=on and then browse to the advance section of the Wireless (802.11) page.  For example, the URL of the home page of my C309g-m (code name Whitney) is:

http://garagewhitney.local./index.htm?cat=info&page=printerInfo

the appended URL would be:

http://garagewhitney.local./index.htm?cat=info&page=printerInfo?support=on

Now in the advanced section of the printer's home page you'll find the setting In an infrastructure network use 802.11b/g behavior. Select that, click apply and then power-cycle the printer.

I changed the printer to b/g mode and so far so good!  Why would that be a hidden settings I wonder.

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

This was my mistake.  I've corrected this in later releases of the firmware for all our 802.11n printers.

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

I experienced exactly the same problem as 'Gronon' and tried out the solution you proposed in this communication chain, i.e. downgrade wireless behavior to b/g mode...seems to be working great now (printer has remained connected for about 30 mins)...thankyou so much!

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

My problem is very like this. I haven't yet tried above soloution but will later. The difference I experience is when my PC runs wireless, the printer disconnects my PC from the router. Also a Linksys WRT600n. I'm a wireless dummy though, just got the equipment last week and have been fighting with LinkSys support ever since. Then I returned my LinkSys router and adapters yesterday and bought a Hercules (that I will return tomorrow, it's a piece of Junk).

As said, I'm a Wireless dummy, and don't know what the difference between these infrastructure network and ad hoc network. I like the printer as well, and if I won't get it working wirelessly I will simply put it by the router and cable it, then I can go wireless on my PC's.

In an infrastructure network use 802.11b behavior.
In an ad hoc network use 802.11b behavior.
In an ad hoc network act connected even when others are not present.
In an infrastructure network use 802.11b/g behavior.

Forget it, I found out the difference myself by reading more posts here. Great forum.

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

I just want to say thanks to WiFi-Guy. Following your advice, I have it now working 100% on my network!

I have been wasting ours in phoning both HP and LinkSys support, wasting my time with reistalling, reading out configurations over the phone, and noone ever gave me any ideas as to where the problem may be.

I owe you a beer if we ever meet.

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

Been running my C309g in wireless mode to my old (circa 2004)  wireless G mode D Link DI624 router for a few months without problems.  After upgrading my router to the Cisco/Linksys E3000 (dual band  wireless N), I see the same issues others have seen with losing network connectivity unless I force the router's 2.4Ghz band to 20Mhz only, channel 11.   Selecting either 20/40mhz or auto channel in the router for the 2.4G band results in loss of connectivity to the C309g (pings timeout) as soon as I start a print job.

Sure sounds like something is flaky with the wireless radio in the HP printer.  The ping timeouts start as soon as it begins processing a print job.  Noise problem in the printer affecting its wireless performance?   I'm not buying the "it's the router's fault" theory.  This printer's wireless performance is deficient.

Reason I suspect the printer is that  I have 4 other wireless devices running on the 2.4ghz band (3 are wireless G, 1 wireless N:  a 3 year old HP laptop, a brand new Lenovo wireless N (2.4Ghz only) Thinkpad, a 5 year old wireless G adapter in a Dell desktop, and a 6 year old wireless G adapter in an even older Thinkpad-- and none have any issues using 20/40mhz + auto channel select with the E3000 (I also use an HP desktop with with an N-adapter on the 5Ghz band). The only device that's flaky is the C309g.    This is not an old 'draft N' spec router.  It's the latest & greatest Cisco makes for home use.

I'd be satisified with the 'fix' of forcing the router to Ch 11+20Mhz only but it cripples the performance of the wireless N adapter in my newest Thinkpad, disabling its use of the 150Mbps data rate.  I'm happy to see that forcing the printer to wireless G is an option (and hopefully it will fix the problem); not happy to have to have spent 3 days looking for a fix, and amused that the  other  posters with the same issues are all being told "the printers fine, its the router thats not to spec".

Re: HP Photosmart Premium C309g-m connection decay problem

Please see my note here on how to set the C309g-m printer to 802.11g only operation.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-networking-and-wireless/HP-Photosmart-Premium-C309g-m-connectio...

Operating the printer in 802.11g doesn't impair your 802.11n network significantly (it's more of an 2nd order effect) -- so there's really no downside to this change.

Last point -- while many 802.11n wireless-routers allow for 40MHz operation in the 2.4 GHz band using a 20/40MHz automatic setting, I don't recommend using this setting.    Unless you are certain that there are no other legacy 802.11b/g devices in the area, you'll only interference to others and may not be able to operate at 40 MHz bandwidth due to the wireless-router not being able to find a clear extra 20 MHz to operate in.
