Re: HP photosmart D110a offline?

From the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Network Test.  Does it show being connected?

What router and encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) do you use?

Re: HP photosmart D110a offline?

It has WPA encryption and the network test on the printer showed that everything was working right.

[ Edited ]

I also have a D110 a which is giving me fits.  The queue will say the printer is ready then when i send it wirelessly, it will show the printer is offline.  After I delete the file, it remains offline.  Running osx 10.6.8.  One other thing, it worked well for about 2 hours.

Re: HP photosmart D110a offline?

Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.  Choose the Full Feature driver and software for OS X 10.6.

HP photosmart D110a will not show up on the network for my two computers running Windows XP

Hi! I've had the Photosmart D110A installed for about a year now. Our family network includes two older computers running Windows XP (Professional) and my daughter's computer that runs Windows 7.  I am using a Linksys router.  Until about a month ago, my main computer was an HP laptop running Vista Home Premium, but  its motherboard has apparently failed, so it is now out of the loop.  I should note that the Vista computer was the only computer on which all features of the D110a were fully installed.

On and off, we've had connectivity troubles with the D110a on the two XP computers.  Everything seemed to be working fine lately until last week, when one of the XP computers started having internet issues. Ultimately, I recycled the router, which fixed the internet problems--but now the D110a printer won't even show up on the network on that computer, or on the other XP computer.  I have run the Wireless Setup Wizard several times, and every time it seems to be connected to the network.  Strangely, I CAN see the D110a printer on the network on my daughter's computer, even though that printer isn't installed on her computer.

I've tried deleting and then reinstalling the printer on one of the XP computers, but, of course, it can't find it to reinstall it!  Finally, I decided to uninstall the driver through Add/Remove programs; now I'm at the point of downloading another driver from the site.

My question is, what happened?  All the IP addresses involved indicate that the computers are all on our home network, i.e. the XP computers have IP addresses along the lines of 192.168.0.x.  I am fairly certain that the IP address of the D110a changed (from 3 to 2) on the network.  That might explain why the port doesn't work any more, but it doesn't explain why it's not showing up in my network places on the XP computers. Unfortunately, the Linksys software was only installed on my poor Vista laptop, so I can't see a chart of the network via Vista.

Any help that you can offer would be appreciated.  By the way, I am using WEP security, mainly because of the XP computers.  There is a third, older XP computer that, I'm fairly certain, doesn't have enough memory/RAM to handle WPA security.

Re: HP photosmart D110a will not show up on the network for my two computers running Windows XP

OK, first, let's set a static IP address for the printer:

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). Yours is 192.168.1.100 to .149.  Let's use 192.168.1.200 for your printer.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS.
- Click 'Apply'.

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

Now, go to each computer > Control Panel > Printer and delete the printer.

Finally, re-add the printer to each with this method:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. (192.168.1.200)
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's IP address. Click Next.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Choose NO.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Re: HP photosmart D110a will not show up on the network for my two computers running Windows XP

Thanks so much for taking the time to addres my problem, Dean.  I have to apologize because I have not yet tried the steps you gave me.  As I mentioned, I had already uninstalled the Photosmart D110a printer (through Add/Remove programs), so I had already reinstalled the printer on my son's computer by the time I got your message.  Part of the installation process, as I'm sure you know, involves configuring the wireless setup. I didn't try to interfere with the setup process, so it just used the current IP address of the printer (ending in a 2).

To my delight, my son's computer was able to detect the printer; the test page printed fine, and subsequent print jobs have gone through without a hitch.  Emboldened by the success of the uninstalling/reinstalling approach, I did the same thing on my daughter's computer. Hers also seems to have configured correctly, and the test page printed without a problem; just to be sure that things were still working with my son's configuration, I printed another test page from his computer without a problem.

So, it seems that, for now, things are going smoothly.  The one strange thing is that the printer does not show up in the Network Places on either my son's or my daughter's computers (both running XP), but that doesn't matter, as long as the print jobs print.

Should future problems develop, I definitely plan to try the solution you proposed (with the static IP address).  It sounds like it would take less time than uninstalling, downloading the drive, and reinstalling! I don't anticipate problems, unless something goes haywire with my son's wireless connection again.  Thanks so much for your time and attention!

Re: HP photosmart D110a offline?

After trying all the HP solutions (including downloading the utility, using the HP Solutions software, uninstalling/reinstalling, and the instructions on this page), the only thing that worked was to power off my router for 30 seconds.  While it was off, I powered off the printer.  Then I turned them both back on, router first, and - viola! - everything was back to normal.

Weird.
