I am trying to print from my MacBook Air and iphone 4 but I keep getting "the printer is not connected"message from the MacBook and unable to find printer from the iphone. The printer is connected as I keep checking the connection. My wifi is password protected. Could this be the problem? Please help. The printer works with no problem on some days and then on days I get the message as I am getting now. Please help.

This may be a router issue. Restart your router by pulling its power plug momentarily.
What router are you using?

The modem is Zhone. Restarting the modem worked. Does this mean I should probably replace my modem?

If troubles persist, yes. I recommend a major brand iike Netgear, Linksys (Cisco) or Apple....only.

Understood that your ISP provides your router (which is likely the cause of the problem - ISPs do not provide the worlds best routers). However, you CAN add a router to your existing router, turn off the wifi on the ISP router and connect all devices to your new router.
If you want to go this direction I can help.

Ok. I had my cable company replace my router... But, it still doesn't work. I purchased a new router to use with it. I would be appreciative if you could walk me through setting this up.

OK, connect your Mac to the existing ISP router. Go to System Preferences > Network and tell me what your Mac's IP address is (on the upper left side of that page).
Next, let me know the brand and model router you bought. Also, what version of OS X are you using?

Ok! I got it!!! It's working... Last question...does the Cisco ethernet cable need to stay plugged into the existing router?
Thank you sooo much for your help!

Yup, if it works, leave it set up the way it is. Based on the answer to the IP question above, strange things may start happening - or not. Let me know how it goes.
