How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

I have attempted to set up a new HP Envy100 D410a wireless printer on my  Wireless network which uses an Actiontec PK 5000 DSL modem/router through my Windows 7 DELL Desktop.  It first failed to connect thru wireless even tho I was able to open the printer page on windows IE9 browser.  After several re-installs, I am now able to communicate from the PC to the printer on both wired and wireless network connections for both printing and scanning.

Now no matter what I try, my iPad 2 will not see the printer.

Any ideas?

Make sure that Web Services are enabled on the printer.  Reboot your router by removing its power momentarily.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Thanx for that suggestion.

Unfortunately, my iPad still is unable to see the printer.

I have been working with the folks at Apple support as well and have restored the iPad to factory settings without success.  They are still trying to find a solution, but I would appreciate any further suggestions that you may offer.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Honestly, the Actiontec (and other ISP-supplied routers) are not the world's best routers.  I suspect this is where the problem lies.

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can change the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
- Click 'Apply'.

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Thanx, but that is not the solution.  The only thing that I accomplished by setting a static IP as suggested was to destroy the hpeprint.com capability, which is the only method I have found to print from my iPad.

I have reenabled  the router DHCP to dynamic settings, removed and re loaded the HP drivers and set up a new hpeprint address.

I believe that it may be best for me to limp along in this fashion until HP, Apple and Actiontec can find a way for their respective components to behave in the manner the marketing folks have promised.

I do appreciate your help and attempts to solve my issues.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Honestly, a kill it dead solution would be to get a standard router from Linksys or Netgear and put "on top of" your Actiontec.

There are a couple of nuances to doing this I can help with.  Move all of your devices, wired and wireless to the new router and you will be fine.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Thanx again.

I have tried that in the past attempting to improve my wireless range and found that my present Actiontec PK5000 g wireless provides better receptivity than the D-Link n router that i tried.

I have added a Hawking HSB2 signal booster which covers my whole house very well.

I have heard from Qwest and Actiontec that they are aware of my iPad wireless connection issues with the HP printer and are anticipating the issuance of a firmware fix for the PK5000 this Summer.

I am convinced that my decision to let all of these components learn to play in the same sandbox is the right one.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

Well, note that I did not mention D-Link :smileyhappy:

If you want to try it again, you may want to reconfigure your router, specifically, set the channel to 11.

Or, of course, you could just wait for Quest to fix it.

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

I understand.  I have used D-Link before and it would not normally be my first choice.  I also suspect that Qwest will postpone pushing the Actiontec firmware upgrade for as long as possible in the hope of selling a new modem/router.  I will probably use less paper by waiting and , who knows, i might even save a tree or two.

Again, thanx for your help.:smileywink:

Re: How can I get my iPad to connect to my HP Envy100 D410a printer?

One add'l thought.

HP provides an installation utility for the Envy printer to install on Windows and Mac O/S, but not on an apple iPad 2 O/S 4.3.3.

Any chance that that might happen?
