LaserJet 4000 with a Jet Direct 600N card

I'm trying to set this printer up for wireless. I've used it for wireless printing but through my WinXP computer. I understand (hope) that the installed Jet Direct card will allow true stand alone wireless printing.

But I'm having a tough time understanding exactly how to configure it. I downloaded HP's Download Manager to search for updated firmwear but it says I don't have a device to download to. I've opened the Jet Direct cover plate and for sure there is a card in there.

Here's how I'm printing wireless now. I have a Linksys E1500 router with a ethernet cable connected to my (old) WinXP computer. The printer is connected to this computer also with a parallel cable. My WinXP prints directly to the printer through the wires - assuming parallel cable. My Macbook Pro and my new Win7 computer print wirelessly through my old WinXP to the printer. The XP computer needs to be on and out of sleep mode for this to happen. My new computer does not have a parallel port otherwise I would just configure it as I do my old computer. That's why I'm trying to make this LaserJet wireless as I intend to discard my old WinXP computer.

The back of the LaserJet has an ethernet connection into the Jet Direct card, but I don't know how to, or to what, to connect it to. My Linksys has four ethernet ports, one of which is connected to the ethernet port in my WinXP computer. The router has the ability to add a device (printer) but the printer needs to be configured.

Can anyone help me understand the process and connections I need to do to make the LaserJet wireless - if it's possible?

Thanks

Hi HPNoob Hope you are doing well;

This is a commercial product. I suggest posting in the forum for HP Business Support as well for a better chance at finding a prompt answer.

You may find the commercial Laserjet board here.

Re: LaserJet 4000 with a Jet Direct 600N card

Thanks for the reply but I actually solved this with a lot of Goggling.

Best, "How To", is on this link:  http://www.ehow.com/how_7605157_print-through-jet-direct-card.html

It takes some trial and error but if you follow the instructions then you will get the JetDirect operating, at least for Win7. MacBook Pro is another matter that I haven't got worked out yet.
