Lost 3210 PhotoSmart All In One on wireless Network, and cannot figure out how to connect to it now.

[ Edited ]

Hi, I have a 3210 All In One Photosmart, and I cannot find it on the network anymore.

I know that I have made it worse by unistalling, reinstalling HP driver software and changing the IP address of the printer. So hopefully someone can help me get this fixed and back to where its visible again.

I have a PC with XP and a Mac with OS 10

The computers are both connected wirelessly to the router/cable modem.

The Printer is connected to the router via ethernet.

I can see the printer using a browser and entering the IP address of the printer. I can also ping its IP address. The Mac can see the printer, but doesnt have the correct drivers installed to see it (I think I can handle that, no need to worry about that yet).

The problem is that I cannot see it in the"add a printer"wizard on the PC. So I cannot add it to the PC.

I was looking around the HP support, and they told me to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them. There was also mention of changing the IP address of the printer to a higher number, but that didnt work either. So I switched that back to the automatic assignment of an IP address for the printer. And lastly, I saw mention of unplugging the printer and holding down the "ok" and "cancel" buttons while plugging it back in. It did a very long setup, but didnt solve the problem.

I have searched the forums for a solution, and cannot find one- so I have exhausted all help there (Ive been on enough forums to know to search before posting a question).

So Im not sure what to do next. Anyone have any suggestions? I really dont know what I can do to get this fixed: Im sure its just a corrupted file or incorrect setting somewhere- I just cannot figure out where it is.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Lost 3210 PhotoSmart All In One on wireless Network, and cannot figure out how to connect to it

For your Mac:

If you're running Snow Leopard, the driver for the 3210 is built in.  Open the Print & Fax applet under System Preferences and press [+] to add the printer.  For other Mac OS versions, download the driver from here and run the installer.

If you continue to have trouble with the Mac, reset the Mac print system and repeat the instructions above.  Information on resetting your Mac printing system can be found here (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341

For the PC:

Since the 3210 is on the network, let's try manually adding the printer. First verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to it's IP address or to it's hostname.  You can find the IP address and hostname by printing out the network configuration page.
Here's the sequence manually installing the print driver for XP:

1. Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
2. Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
3. Click "Next" button on the Add Printer Wizard window.
4. Select "Local printer attached to this computer". Deselect "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer". Click "Next".
5. Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
6. In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and connected to same network that your computer is connected to. Click "Next" button.
7. Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's hostname. You can also use the printer's IP address if it's static. Click "Next" then click "Finish".
8. Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
9. If you can't find your printer, you'll need to find the install CD and use the "Have Disk" option to select one of the hp*.ini files. Alternatively, you can select another HP printer model from the same type.
10. Add the print spooler name and click "Next".
11. Click "Next"
12. Click "Next" and then "Finish"

Re: Lost 3210 PhotoSmart All In One on wireless Network, and cannot figure out how to connect to it

Well, now I have another problem:

The printer worked for about a day. Now, it has print jobs queued up that will not print. I tried to delete them, and they are still there. I restarted the computer and the printer, and its still listed as "deleting".

Any idea what to do now?

Thanks in advance

Make sure the correct TCP\IP port is selected in the Ports tab in the printer Properties page.

Hi-

The TCP/IP settings in the printer properties match the settings from the Network configuration on the printer.

Thanks

Re: Lost 3210 PhotoSmart All In One on wireless Network, and cannot figure out how to connect to it

In step #7 (of my previous post above), did you use the printer's hostname or the IP address?  If you used the printer's IP address, is it different now than when you setup the printer?  To check what the printer IP address was:

  • Go to the control panel and open the printer folder
  • Right click on the 3210 printer queue
  • Click on properties
  • Click on ports
  • Click on configured port and note the IP address.

If it has changed, then I'd like you to set a static IP address in your printer.  Here's how:

  • Press the Setup button on the printer
  • Select Network on the menu
  • Select Advanced Setup
  • Select IP settings
  • Select Manual
  • Select IP address.  Change it to the previous IP address.
  • Turn off all your computers and any other networked devices you have.
  • Power cycle the printer

That should restore the printer's connection to your computer.

If you used the hostname, I'm wondering if your security SW on your PC is blocking discovery of the printer.  What type of firewall are you running (e.g. Norton/Symantec, Trend Micro, Zonealarm, etc)?

Re: Lost 3210 PhotoSmart All In One on wireless Network, and cannot figure out how to connect to it

Ok, so I made sure all devices have the same IP, and then I powered them all down.

Then, I powered them all back up and made sure that they again have all the same IP.

I tried printing, and its doing the same thing: the prtnt status window still says "printing", but nothing is being sent.

I am using Norton 360 on the XP machine, but havent changed anything on it recently, so dont know how that would affect the IP.

One thing I forgot to mention (sorry about not saying so sooner): the Macintosh that I have was on the network a long time ago, but hasnt been on it in a long time. I just turned it on and the old settings worked after it had been off the network for about 4 months. Is there a chance that may be a factor?

Let me know what you think my next steps should be: and thanks for all your help, I appreciate it!
