Replaced a broken HP networked wireless printer with a new HP OfficeJet 6700 (printer, fax, copier). The printer works fine from my HP laptop (Windows7) but can't get it to work from Macbook Pro (all software up to date on both machines). The new printer is set for sharing and the old one (also HP) worked fine from both computers.
I removed the old printer from the Mac, downloaded & installed latest driver for Mac OS from HP but it could not "see" the printer. The Mac could "see" the Fax part of the printer but not the printer part. I installed the printer manually on the Mac by adding the IP address. The Mac successfully printed a test page but when trying to print a document or email, I get an error message "Printer URI is incorrect or no longer exists."
Ideas and suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you are using OS X 10.6 or 10.7, download and install this: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
Reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Excellent, it's working! The new printer still could not be "seen" until I powered the printer down and then powered it on and waited a minute or so for the Mac to see it. I suggest adding that step to the instructions after resetting the printing system.
Thank you again.

Thanks that worked. You might add that after you select the printer you should select Air Print

Hi
I followed your suggestion and am still having a challenge with my HP printer. I have a MacBook Pro running 10.8, and recently bought an HP Officejet 6700 Premium. I installed the dirver that you had listed, and my computer only "sees" the HP option when I connect with a USB cable. I do have the printer connected to my wireless router and verified that it is connected.
Any ideas?
Les

I had to try it twice before I got it to work using the IP vs Default. After I got the printer to work I had to reset the Scanner a few times to get it to scan to a wireless computer.
