No, sorry, I had to run out of town overnight.  I am back

I am thinking something is wrong with your Windows installation.  

Go to Start > Control Panel > Devices & Printers and delete all instances of this printer.

Restart your PC and try installing the sofware from HP again.

Well I thought I had it.  Went through the download process once.  Got the cannot find file specified notice again.  Went through error report etc.  Ran the solution that was downloaded.  Shut everything down and up again.  Got the Uninstall Complete nothice.   Did the download again.  Got the the point where,  after the download, the actual install started  then partway through and got the old "system cannot find file specified".  :-((

At this point I think its your Win7 system.  First, do a Windows Update over and over until there are no more.

If that does not do it, either try a registry cleaner or reinstall Win7.  Sorry.

Well, after todays message from you I was pretty down.  I spent the afternoon just cleaning up my laptop, freeing up disc space, defragmenting the hard drive, looking for solutions etc.  Then I decided to try the download routine again. When I got to the part where I chose what I wanted to download I read the descriptions and recommendations of which one to choose.  This time I chose the "Deluxe one"  (not their word) instead of the regular one. After the 18+min. download time instead of 7+ for the other one i got started on the Installation holding my breath all the way.  You can imagine how elated I was to get the message and Congratulations that the Installation was finished and successful.  What a grueling few days.  I really want to thank you for being so patient with me and making me familiar with the way to proceed even if everything we tried failed.  It was by learning how to navigate these pages that I was able to succeed.  By all means I will click on that Icon that gives you good feedback for your time and effort.  Thank you again.   P.S. Please send me a final note.

Oh, I am glad it worked.  It is not clear to me, though, whether it was cleaning up your PC or downloading the "Full Feature" software that did the trick.  What do you think it was?

I haven't a clue.  The CIN in my name means Computer Illiterate Nerd.  My guess is it was a little bit of both.  I never did understand what the "file specified" that the System couldnt find was.  Maybe it had something to do with the two different download offerings and I finally chose the right one.  Which post's Kudos button should I select?  And should I select the "Solution"  tab?
