My PhotoSmart 5510 keeps going offline wireless or crashes op sys if USB

I am using this printer on a Toshiba i7 quad 4 laptop running Windows 7 with a Trendnet wireless router.

1.) My HP PhotoSmart 5510 keeps going offline when the printout is generated.  The wireless is connected, the status is good, it is the default printer, it is not in offline mode or disabled in any way, and it starts the file but then aborts and goes offline.  Following this, I can only make it print again by running HP DU diagnostic utility but the utility says "printer off line" and "problem is not found."  But, usually then I can print.  Sometimes I cannot and it takes an hour or two of repeating this process to get it going again.

2.) I have a second problem with my USB.  If I set it up as a USB printer, the printer will crash my operating system as soon as it is powered on.  This does not happen with my Dell printer using the same USB port.  The whole Windows 7 comes crashing down and the computer will not restart even in safe mode unless the printer is powered off or the USB is disconnected.  I did get it to print using the USB only ONE time but then the USB quit.   I am focusing on wireless now.

Do you have the same issues if you use another PC or notebook?

I have an older Dell laptop and I installed the software on the Dell but I have not tried it yet mainly because it does not have built in wireless.  I don't use the Dell on my wireless router because it is a real pain and rarely works and goes offline.  But I intend to test the Dell with the USB.  That may end up as my backup printing method until I can resolve this.  If the Dell crashes with the USB I will have proven my point since so far HP has insisted that it is impossible for their printer to crash an OP sys.  LOL

But I want to know if the printer is defective while it is still in Warranty I have a year still to make this decision.

Sorry for the error in my first post.  I had been using a Lexmark not a Dell printer before this HP and it worked fine with on my new Toshiba i7 which crashes with the same USB with the HP.

Check at the Toshiba support website to see if there are any downloadable updates  avilable for your notebook related to crashes with devices connected with USB.

When issues like that are seen with  current HP products and HP is aware of them there is generally a quick response with a QFE (quick fix engineering solution) for HP's customers via the appropriate web support portal.

I know I'm replying to a two months old thread, but I'm experiencing the exact same problem as obewans (1). 

Has a solution been found already? 

In my case, this happens on three different laptops, each another brand and one another operating system.

I'm getting the windows 7 os crash too when using the usb connection.

Very disappointed - brand new 5510, been through all the setup so i can't return it and it doesn't work.
