I have seen errors for many different reasons. They can range from bad print cartridges to bad settings to failed hardware. I would first remove the print cartridges and power cycle the printer (unplug then plug back in). If that doesn't help try resetting the printer to default factory settings.
DO NOT DO THIS IS YOU DO NOT HAVE THE ORIGINAL SETUP CARTRIDGES - you might get the printer in a state that can't be recovered without calling HP. (If you are already in that state send me a private massage.)
To restore to factory defaults.
- unplug the printer
- press and hold the red X button and the middle button on the right side of the LCD
- plug in the power.
This will erase any settings in the printer like wireless settings, but might also put the printer into a better state.

i tried to reset the printer as you said. it worked. and completely destroyed it. it keeps asking for the setup cartridges, which i still have, but they're not new ones. which i have found out, is a MUST for the printer to recognise them and start up. since you work for HP is it possible for me ask them to fix this without charge? i cannot check my warranty because my ORIGINAL problem which i was trying to fix does not allow me to install the driver for the printer and therefore i cannot detect whether my warranty still covers the product. Nor does the the printer allow me to scroll down and check my ID model number in the information menu for some insane reason, so i cannot even check manually....
do you have any advice?

Go ahead and call support. They will tell you if you are in warrenty. I'll also look into a button press to get you around the setup cartriage issue.
