This is really strange. This is the first subnet mask error I have heard of. Did you try restarting your router and your printer?

ALL MAC USERS TAKE A NOTE ANI WILL TELL YOU HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM
Ensure your printer has a wfi connection, you have used the softwear to put the printer onto your mac and you know your printrs ip address
1) Go to system preferences
2) Print and fax
3) Add printer which is the + button bottom left
4) on the pop up third button at the top IP (it has a world symbol)
5) Protocol drop down find your printer
6) Adress :- entre your printers IP adress eg 192.168.1.7
7) ignore all the other boxes except the last one print using :- again find your printer ( should already be there in the box)
8) Press Apply
Hey presto you are printing
No need for all this change channels in router , Subnet task change crap
Press the button to say thank you to rythemromeo

While this may work sometimes, my experience is that when it does it enables printing but not scanning.

I am having the same exact problem except with an 8500 A910. The IP address solution fixed the printing problem but not the scanning issue. This is highly frustrating as the printer sees the network but all of my computers (2 macs and 1 pc) cannot find the printer. When I restart the printer, I can print one single document and then the connectivity to the computer is lost.
My wireless connection has fine for the better part of a year and this just cropped up. There have been no changes to my network or router so what could be going on?

OK, back to getting the printer to show up in the Default tab when adding it.
Assuming your printer still has a valid IP address, enter that address into a web browser's address bar. Can you "see" the printer's internal settings?
Are you using any antivirus software on your Mac?

It comes with anti virus and mac filtering is off on the router
Just spoke with kerry from hp support, we have set up a manual ip addres for the printer on the HP site
I had a email from Ashley who asked me to open 2 ports on my router so
I went to NAT on my router settings, port mapping, then entered
EXT PORT :- 5353
INT PORT :- 5353
INT HOST:- ( MY MAC) 192.168.1.6
MAPPING NAME:- Print 1
(protocol was already set at TCP so left it at that)
The set a new one at
EXT PORT :- 5928
INT PORT :- 5928
INT HOST:- ( MY MAC) 192.168.1.6
MAPPING NAME:- Print 2
(protocol was already set at TCP so left it at that)
I then turned off the router, comp and printer, switched the router back on then printer and computer, i could not print but kerry has sorted that out by a manuel ip adress, but can not scan and can not air print
