New HP Photosmart D110 will not print wirelessly

I have a new HP Photosmart D110a and have successfully set it up and all seems to print OK until I try to disconnect it from the computer to move it.  It says it is connected wireless:  the blue light is on, the wireless network test report says wireless is on and working, it has the correct network name (ssid), the network configuration page indicates a ready wireless active connection.  However, it will not print if I disconnect the wired USB connection.  I paid extra for the wireless printer so I could place it away from the computer so I would really like to get this issue resolved.  Other data that may be helpful:  HP m91000t computer with Vista 32, which is also connected  wirelessly to a comcast cable modem through a new netgear router.  I tried disabling the Norton firewall and it still won't print wireless.  All the software that came with the printer seemed to install correctly.  I tried to use Vista to "add a printer"  now there is a second printer listed under printers in the control panel, one that says 'HP Photosmart D110 Series  and the added one that says, " HP78EF1A (HP Photosmart D110 Series); I'd like to delete which ever printer is not needed.  I can print wired form either printer.

Re: New HP Photosmart D110 will not print wirelessly

Your computer thinks that the printer is connected via USB.  You need to add a version of it for wireless printing.  Here is how:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with ".inf". Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Re: New HP Photosmart D110 will not find my computer

Do you have a router?  Do you know the network name (SSID) and password?

From the front of the printer: Setup > Network > Wireless Setup Wizard.  Next, run the HP software on your computer to "Add a Device" or get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Driver" link at the top of this page.

Re: New HP Photosmart D110 will not print wirelessly

OMG!!!!  You are "DA MAN"... or "DA WOMAN"!!!!!  This works like a charm.  When I initially tried to install the HP Photosmart D110 on my laptop(Windows XP) I got a message saying I needed file usb.inf from the Windows XP Disk... I HAVE NO IDEA WHERE MY DISK IS!!!!!  Using your steps, I didn't need anything!!!!!  Thank You.

Also... I had successfully installed the printer on my Desktop PC (Windows 7) but nothing was printing.... your steps again saved the day!!!!!  Thanks SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!

From the front of the printer: Setup > Wireless > WIreless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.

After you connect the printer to your network, get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.  When it asks for the type of installation choose "Wireless" or "Network".

Re: New HP Photosmart D110 will not print wirelessly

I'm having trouble setting up my father-in-law's HP Photosmart D110 to print wirelessly from his iPad.

The first time he went through the wizard it showed an error and could not connect. Then when I went through the wizard again it connected just fine - the connection was successful. We managed to print from the iPad without a hitch. Then the next time he went to print it wouldn't connect again.

Is there a simple way to get it to work? The iPad bit is easy. The HP bit is not.

Thank you.

I suspect the router.  What does he use?
