Actually, your router should not care how devices are connected.  If the printer is wireless and the computers are wired to the router, they should still be able to print and scan.

If they cannot, something is wrong.

Re: OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

I meant that the computers wired and unwired going through the router can print on the printer that's wired to the router, except for the new Mac. When I disconnect the ethernet cable of printer to the router and printer is working wirelessly, the Mac can print. But when I connect the cable of printer back to the router, all my other computers can print except the Mac. Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks.

Sure.  When you install the printer on a Mac (or PC for that matter), it remembers its connection type (wired or wireless) and will look for it at that location.

With the printer wired to the router, on the Mac, reset the printing system:

- Sys Prefs, Print & Fax
- Right (control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add it. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

I  just installed the HP Officejet 6500 E709n Series on my HP Pavilion (Vista 32 bit) and I use a Linksys router. The install appeared to be successful, but I cannot print. All my other wireless devices are online and working as expected.

I get the messages the 'printer is offline' , 'document failed to print' and 'printer is disconnected'. I've run through the HP guided solutions and the only thing that it appeared that I needed to change was the port - from 'HP_192.168.1.105... Standard TCP/IP' to 'USB001 Virtual...'. According to the guide everything else was configured properly. Any guidance would much be appreciated.

Thanks

Let's try downloading and running this utility.  It should tell us what is going on.

If your printer is (supposedly) connected to a router, you should not change the port to USB.  Keep it on the Standard TCP/IP.

I suspect your security system's firewall.  What system do you use?

Re: OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

I am using windows firewall. I ran the utility and my printer was not listed. I tried changing my port back to Standard TCP/IP, but it was no longer an option. It looked like it chnaged to dot001 officejet 6500...'. whihc is one of the recommended ports from the guided fix.

Do you have a security system that has a firewall (Norton, McAfee, etc)?  If so, disable it.

Re: OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.

2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
3. Delete the printer, then click the 'Add a Printer'
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Re: OfficeJet 6500 E709N Series ~ Cannot Print Wirelessly....

first of all i figured out how to kae a new post, do you want me to mve these posts over into a new one? Please advise.

answeres in red:

1. Make sure the printer is turned on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing. It does not recognize it it is 192.168.1.105 and the page cannot display. As an asside, my lpatop can o longer recognize my wireless device wirelessly, my iphone tec. can. Also my linksys software is grayed out, I cannot do anything with it, I can only access it via ie with it's address. This is a new development.

No test page. error 'erroor-printing'. The setup did default to lpt1. after the error I tried to chnage it to tcp/ip but there was no option for that
