I used the ADF and the flat bed to scan; both having lines as a result.
In one of the forums and they thought it was static. It was suggested to have the printer on and then unplug it. Wait 15 seconds and plug it back in. That did the trick. No more lines. I guess with winter bringing on more dry air, static is prevalent.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus and I am having vertical lines show up on all my scans. I use the document feeder. But I notice they happen with the flat bed as well. I tried unplugging it and then waiting 15 seconds and then replugging it in. Still has the lines. Help!!

I started this thread Dec 2011 and had not had the problem again until this December. I think it might be static build up with the dry air in the house. I repeated the solution (unplug, wait, plug in) and that has solved the problem again.
A possibility, if you only have a problem when scanning (on ADF and flat bed) and not printing, is that the scanning bar has a scratch on it. But if it seems to be getting worse, it realy sounds like static. This is only my guess. Maybe HP Support can help further.

I have the same problem andI am in Florida where the air is not that dry. Vertical lines appear on copies and scans if they are in B/W but not if I do them in color.
I did turn off the unit for a minute and I did clean all the glass surfaces with acholhol...I am at a loss.
I bought this 8600 last week....how do I get an exchange??
