Officejet 6500 and problems printing Word and PowerPoint 2003 and PDFs [ Edited ]

When I try to print a Word document, I get a message that says Word is not responding. Then a few minutes later, the Print box comes up. A few minutes later, the doc will (usually) print. At times, I get a message that says that the printer has not yet responded and do I want to wait for the printer.  A similar problem with PowerPoint. I never have a problem with Excel. Notepad usually prints just fine.

For PDFs (Adobe Reader 8.1.3), it takes forever for the Printer box to come up. Then I select Print and it hangs. Finally I either have to close the PDF or the Print box just disappears. The tech recommended that I uninstall Adobe Reader 9 and go to Reader 8.  I have a new HP laptop (Vista Home Premium  Edition 64-bit OS). 

I have also spent at least four hours with HP's online tech support, to no avail. I have uninstalled MS Office 2003, HP print drivers, reinstalled them, and still the same problem.  I cannot figure out if the problem is with Vista, MS Office or the 6500 printer.

Well...the 'solution' I received from HP Support was to add a new printer (Deskjet 990C) and make it the default printer. Once I did that, all printing issues went away. The tech person did say there were some compatability issues between the Officejet 6500 printer and Vista, but would not elaborate.

DITTO FOR THE OJ 6500 PRINTER ON FIREFOX FOR SWP AND FINDING THE CLIP BOX TO OPEN IT TO CONTINUE WITH WHAT I WANT TO PRINT AS DESCRIBED IN THEIR HELP BOX -CLIP BOX ICON ON RIGHT NOT AVAILABLE. CARWAHILL
