Officejet J6480 All-in-One wireless Nightmare

I bought a new computer and 6480 wireless printer. This is with use of Vista 64-bit OS.

This has been a comedy of errors to install w/ tech support. It's taken a month. Here's why:

Sales didn't tell me printer would need additional "stuff" to get it to work.

Phone support (very nice and courteous service w/India call center) attempted to fix, but required more "stuff" to buy through Sales.

The install disc was not Vista 64-bit compatible.

Transferred to Sales, who sold me more stuff to fix it.

I install the wireless router myself and configure (amazing isn't it?), but it doesn't work. Hmm.

Back to India for 2-hour session. Doesn't work. Am told it's a bad router security key. I must call router manufacturer now.

After 20-minute D-Link phone chat (that's after 1-hour try to figure it out myself w/their awful help pages), I am told it's not the router problem. I need a printer driver. I don't know what that is - I'm still amazed I got this far by myself.  D-Link says to tell Tech that they have to reconfigure the printer to fit the router.

I research. Then I drop in on this forum - see the posting for wireless printer install video. Go to YouTube, see that and VOILA! I am shown that part of the normal process is to get the printer driver.

I took the chance- did just that and now the printer works w/out a problem.

May I suggest to Sales and Tech Support:

If you sell us a wireless printer, if it's more than plug and play, tell us the software, etc. we need and we'll gladly pay for it along with the rest of the stuff we bought.

Don't send us the incorrect install disc. Do not send a disc for XP or 32-bit Vista when we say we have 64-bit Vista.

Think small and move up for troubleshooting. Who knew you need a print driver? I didn't even know what the heck it was.

Thank goodness for the online forums like this and to the company guy who made that printer install video.  And thank goodness, I didn't give up and throw the printer out the window.

I hope this helps someone who may be having a similar problem.
