Offline Printer

Well first, I have beeen to microsoft sight ad there are a lot of questions about these HP w/rieless printers. I am really unhappy, and I went around in  circles trying to find the "CONTACT US", I couldnt find one. There is one place to contact via e-mail, but again you run around in circles and cannot sent an e-mail. They are hiding , what for, could it be that their products are junk?

I have an HP computer and Printer. The printer keeps going offline, . I called on the assist line, they helped me. every couple of months it goes offline, but now the warranty is up, and  I would have to pay to get HP to get it online again.  I have been uninstalling and installing the printer for 4 days, turing it off and disconneccting it as suggested in the book and online, it doesn't work.  I would never reccommend an HP Computer or Printer to anyone.

They know that their products have problems that is why they make it hard to e-mail. The computer loses contact with the priter because it seems that the printer IP address changes.

I could pay the geek sqad to get it online, but then I would have to do it again in a couple of months when it goes offline again.

Re: Offline Printer

Let's set a static IP address for the printer:

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). You can find the DHCP range of the router using its internal settings page or in its manual. Use the CD that came with your router or type the router's IP address (ends in .1) into a browser.
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway and first DNS. Leave the second one blank.
- Click 'Apply'.

Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.

After this you may need to redo 'Add a Printer' using the new IP address.

[ Edited ]

You have to be joking.  I wish I could decipher 10% of what you just said so that I might have a chance of getting this {Content Removed: Language Filter Evasion} printer to stay connected to my wireless network.  I think that instead I will just go find the tallest building in Livingston County from which to hurl this printer to its rightful demise and go buy a printer that doesn't require a BS in Computer Science to get it to function properly.

There must be an easier way.

Re: Offline Printer

If you want help, let me know what printer model, router brand and what operating system you are using.

If you are just blowing off steam, well, OK.

Re: Offline Printer

Both!

I have two laptops that access the network for printing.  One is a Dell running Windows XP Pro 2002 SP3, the other is a Macbook Pro running OS X ver 10.6.8.  The wireless router is a Cisco Linksys E2000.  The printer is HP Photosmart Plus B209.

Thanks,

Don

Re: Offline Printer

OK, let's start with the printer. From the front of the printer: Setup > Network > WIreless Network Test.  Does it show that your printer is connected to your network?

Assuming it is, type the printer's IP address into a web browser's address bar on one of the computers.  Can you see the printer's settings?

Re: Offline Printer

yes, it's connected to the wireless network.  When I put the IP address into my browser's address bar, I get an error message:  Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.

Re: Offline Printer

My printer (Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-one) works okay from the wired connection off of my main computer but will not work with my laptop to the router.  On the network configuration I get a "No Link" entry.  I suspect the memory card has failed...is there any way to test it?

OK, this indicates there is something in your PC blocking the print communication.  I suspect a 3rd party firewall (like may be part of an antivirus suite).  If you can, disable this firewall and try again.

This also may help.  Download and run this utility: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Nav?h_pagetype=s-926&h_lang=en&h_client=s-h-e17-1&h_keyword=dg-NDU&ju...

What does it say?

Re: Offline Printer

I will try to run the utility later this evening. The printer doesn't print from either laptop. You're saying there is a virus on both the PC laptop and the Macbook? Doesn't make sense.
