PC cannot find HP 5515 printer on the network

I have a HP 5515e All in One Printer.

I am using a Sony Laptop PC with Windows 7. 

I have set the printer up on my WiFi network and the printer is connected to this network and displays a valid IP address.

I have gone through the set up procedures on my PC but the PC cannot connect to the Printer.

I have followed all the suggestions and procedures using the additional downloaded Troubleshooting software.

When I ping the printer I get the message "destination host unreachable" but the device seems to have recieved the pings.

I have disabled the firewall and this makes no difference.

I have other devices on my wifi network eg disc drives and these work ok.

I am using a Netgear wag102 wireless router with a netgear ADSL2 Modem router Model DG834.

The HP printer works fine when connected via USB port and also works on the network when printing from my iPad and iPhone.

I would be grateful for any suggestions, I believe it is a problem with my PC setup rather than the printer (although I am not 100% sure).

I downloaded the utility and ran it. This says that everything is OK.

But the problem is still the same I can print over the same wireless network from my iPad and iphone but not from my PC. I have tried disabling both the firewalls in my router (as advised by HP Helpdesk agent) and my PC firewall but this does not have any noticable effect.

On printer properties/ports I get a port name of 192.168.1.39:9100

The attached devices list on my ADSL2 router shows both my printer and PC. From the router I can ping the printer but  need to disable the firewall to ping the PC. (as you would expect).

If I can print to the printer from other devicescan I assume the network and printer is configured OK?

Then this makes me think that it must be something in my PC affecting the wifi printing.

Any ideas - I seem to be at a standstill with this.

Good troubleshooting!   I highly recommend against disabling your router firewall as it will protect you from unwanted visitors from the Internet and should have no effect on this problem.

I suspect your antivirus / security suite and/or its own firewall.  Windowt firewall is almost never a problem.  What security software are you using?

The Security software I am using is 

BT Net protect  based on McAfee Suite:-

McAfee Security Centre version 11.0 Build 11.0.669

McAfee Virus Scan Build 15.0 Build 15.0.300

McAfee Personal Firewall Versionb 12.0 Build 12.03.351

McAfee SiteAdvisor virsion 3.4 Build 3.4.1.195

McAfee Parental Controls Version 13.0 (not used)

McAfee QuickClean and Shredder Version 11.0 Build 11.0.418

However when I turn the firewall off I do not see any change (ie still cannot contact the printer)

I use Local mac address access control on the WAP all relevant stations are ok and also shown as available.

I could remove the McAfee software and rely on windows but I like the enhanced protection I get from McAfee.

I have reset router and WAP to default settings then rebuilt them again but to no avail.

Try the Network Diagnostic Utility on this page: www.hp.com/go/tools

Do you have any other security software on your PC other than the BT Net Protect (even if not active)?

I have exactly the same problem with Deskjet 3050A.  It has connected wirelessly to my Netgear router  (confirmed by printer's test sheet).  But my PC is unable to find it .  I have tried all of HP's suggested solutions.  What else can I do?

If you have antivirus software on your PC, disable its firewall and try again.
