hello,
i have a problem with my wireless Photosmart C4380. Since a couple of weeks i have a new wi fi router for internet connection. The problem starts if i want to print a document: if i connect to the printer my internet connection stops. Also, if the document i print is a picture it comes all purple but i don't know if this is a color issue or if it's because the connection problem. When i put the memory card straight into the printer i could see a picture printed even though still had some purple color in it.
Anyway, my first problem to try to solve is the connection issue. How can i make both connections (PC to Printer and PC to router) work together?
- Operating System: Vista Home Premium - Service pack 2
- Connection wireless (PC to printer and PC to router)
- Don't get any error message. Just lose internet connection
I hope you can help me as i don't really know what to do. ![]()
Thank you in advance,
bye

- Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- Click the Manual IP button and enter:
the current IP address
255.255.255.0 for the subnet
Leave the gateway and DNS blank
- Click 'Apply'
Now, shut down the router and printer, start the router, wait, then start the printer.
If this does not work, tell me the brand/model of your new wireless router.

Hello PrintDoc, thank you for your reply.
I tried to do what you said but i still have the same problem.
I put the IP address of my printer and the address for subnet in the printer internal setting. Now, also, it's not possible to reach the internal setting of my printer through the printer IP address. I hope it's just a temporary problem.
My wireless router brand/model is:
D-Link DSL-2640B
Right now i am using the connection with an ethernet cable. If i take it off i won't be able to access internet.
I tried to connect to my wi fi router with a smartphone and it works so definetely there's something wrong just in the connection between my PC and the wi fi router.
Thank you again for you help and clear instructions. ![]()

Sometimes DSL providers have more control over the router than the printer likes.
Do this with the Ethernet connection disconnected!
- Unplug the telephone line from the router
- Turn the power off on the router, wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on.
- Go through the normal process of wirelessly connecting the printer to the router.
- Finally, plug in the phone line, reboot the router and test.

Nothing, it still doesn't work. ![]()
Just to make it clear, i have 2 different wireless connections:
1) PC to printer
2) PC to router DSL
Router and printer are NOT in the same wireless network.
Don't know if this helps.

OH! DUH!
Thanks for clarifying that about two connections. You are connecting wirelessly to your printer directly, not through the router, right?
OK, your wireless card in your computer (assuming you only have one) can only connect to one device at a time. If it is connected to your printer it is NOT connected to your router. Therefore, you do not have internet access.
Why not connect your printer to your router so you can have both printing and internet?

Thank you PrintDoc!
I understand the problem then! ![]()
The point now is how to connect my printer to the router. I'm actually not good at doing these things unless it's something easy. What do you think?
I'm still not able to access internet with wireless connection, looks like there's a permanent problem in the connection between PC and router since i connected PC to the printer. I am limited to local connection, no internet. I get a message saying that the network can't be identify. Don't know wheter it can't read the WLAN password anymore or what else. Do you think i should do router installation and network set up again as it was the 1st installation?
I'm just wondering, any suggestion/instruction is more than welcome! ![]()
Thanks again

You may want to start with a reboot of your router. Pull the power plug out of the back, wait, then plug back in and wait for it to boot.
If that does not work, re-setting up your router would not hurt. Use WPA or WPA2 security. Pick a passphrase of at least 13 characters, numbers and letters, upper and lower case.
Next, look on page 16 of the manual for instructions as to how to set up your printer on your network (router).

Well, this is the situation now:
- router wifi works again. Had to re-install it but works fine now.
- i canceled the previous connection (ad hoc) between PC and printer and did everything to put the printer in the same network with PC and router. I get to the last step and when it's supposed to find and add the printer in the network i get a message saying that the printer can't be found. I don't know why, i tried several times but it's always the same.
I also printed the network setting report directly from the printer wich says everything went ok and the printer was added. But in fact this is not true.
I'm lost ![]()

Did you try to disable your Windows firewall and your Security system's firewall?
