Printer recognized using IE but not discoverable on Win7 Add a Device

I am running a network with a Dell desktop, XP Pro, and an HP Laptop, Win 7 64 bit.  I have a 2510 All-In-One.  All three devices are connected to the Netgear wireless router directly.  I am NOT using wireless at this time. (However I would like to connect wireless in the future).  Both machines are running McAfee virus and firewall.

The XP machine recognizes the printer and prints with no problem.  Using the Win7 machine and IE, I can access the printer using the IP address (192.168.1.2).  However, when I try to attach the printer using the Add a Device option in the Devices and Printers window, the printer is not discoverable.  I disabled the firewall, same results.  If I log into the Netgear, all three devices are listed as attached devices.

Any ideas?

Is the device a deskjet?  Specifically a HP Deskjet D2500 Printer series product?

Re: Printer recognized using IE but not discoverable on Win7 Add a Device

The driver for the printer is part of Windows 7.  Have you seen this document yet?

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01796879&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4063&product=303...

Once you have the printer installed, you could then switch the port in the driver over to the IP address.

Yes, I have looked at that.  It only addresses connecting the printer via USB.  I have it wired through my router.  The funny thing is that I can see the printer using IE and the IP address, but I cannot see it to attach it as a printer.

Re: Printer recognized using IE but not discoverable on Win7 Add a Device

Have you installed it yet by attaching by USB?  If not, I'd have to advise doing that first.  Once you have the printer installed and working by USB then you can make some changes to get it printing over the network.

Re: Printer recognized using IE but not discoverable on Win7 Add a Device

That worked.  I connected the Win7 computer to the psc 2510 using the USB cable.  The computer then set up the printer as a USB connected device.  I then shut down everything and connected the printer to the router.   Both the XP desktop and the Win7 laptop recognized that there was a printer, but both showed it as being offline.  Apparently, shutting down the router and bringing it back up caused the IP address of all my devices to change.  I had to open the printer properties and modify the port IP address to recognized the printer.  I hope this doesn't happen every time I shut down the router, but at least I know what to do.  Thanks for the suggestion.
