Prints automatically stop on HP Photosmart C4580 - Utility doesn't open

I have a HP Photosmart C4580 that I've used for over a year with a USB connection to my Macbook (operating system Mac OS X version 10.5.8)- no problems.  I just installed a new router and decided I would try to hook the printer up for wireless connection as I was installing. I went through the set up steps and have a wireless network test report from the printer that says everything was successful.  However when I try to print, the print goes into the cue and automatically stops.  When I hit the "Resume Print" button, it just stops again.  I tried to click the utility button to see what the problem might be, but nothing happens when I click it.

I tried to go back to the USB connection and added the printer to the printer list, but the same thing occurs there.  the prints automatically stop.  It's like there's an automatic switch off that I can't override.  I've walked through the entire trouble shoot list on the HP Printer page with no luck.

Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks in advance!

Re: Prints automatically stop on HP Photosmart C4580 - Utility doesn't open

Hey Loofie! Sorry to hear your having trouble. Lets try removing the printer and then re-adding it.

  • Click the Apple menu icon ( ), and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
  • Click Print & Fax to open the Printers list.
  • In the Printers list, select your HP product, and then click the Minus button ( ) to delete it.
  • Exit all open windows or programs, and then restart the computer.
  • When the computer restarts, click the Apple menu icon ( ), and then click System Preferences on the drop-down menu.
  • Click Print & Fax to open the Printers list.
  • If the product does not automatically add to the Printers list, click the Add button ( ).
  • Select your HP product from the list, and then click Add . After a few seconds, the product displays in the Printers list.
  • Try printing again

Let me know if this gets you back up and running. It not we can try some more troubleshooting steps! Good luck :robotvery-happy:

I wish I could say this helped, but I'm still experiencing the same problem.  :smileysad:

Re: Prints automatically stop on HP Photosmart C4580 - Utility doesn't open

I have a photosmart C7280 about 3 yrs old. Connected to wireless Linksys router about a yr ago when I purchased a new Acer desktop, with WIN 7. D/l required driver from HP site & all was well until a month ago. The printer powered down by itself often even though the power was still on. Turning the power off & then on again sometimes fixed it for a while.

2 days ago I deleted printer from my computer, turned all off, then reinstalled. No change-still cuts off by itself!

HELP!! Oh,yes! Sometimes I received an error message 0xc19a0035 when it went off.

Anyone know how to correct this?
