A couple of days ago (7-12-2010) I received a notice from HP Updates that updates were available. I always keep my laptop up to date, so I went ahead and installed the updates. One of the updates was to improve printer/network connectivity issues. After the updates were installed, and subsequent system restart, my printer is disconnected. If I check status via the HP Solutions Center system tray icon (right click and choose HP Officejet Pro L7600 Series > Display Status, a window pops up that says "HP Officejet Pro L7600 Series Disconnected". This was working perfectly before the update "to improve connectivity issues."
I can print, but cannot scan. In the HP Solutions Center, network settings appear OK. In my firewall settings, I see all of the HP executables. I have Windows XP Pro SP3 (still supported by MS). Any other further information you require?
How do I get rid of the disconnection error and get everything working again?

I have same problem with L7780 - can't scan due to so-called communication/connectivity error.
I have exhausted HP's "solutions" and still can't scan.
Help.

I finally found a solution, but it wasn't easy. Nor did HP make it any easier find any kind of solution. No one from HP ever responded, either. I found a log file, not documented anywhere I could find, HPQDDSVC.log that had an error message in it: "HP cue device discovery hung on starting." But searching for this at HP on-line support turned up nothing about this error, what it means, and most importantly, how to solve it.
I eventually found a diagnostic tool. HP did not make it easy to find it. I stumbled across it quite by accident. The name of the downloadable tool is HPHNDU_3053.exe. I ran it and it crashed. I ran it again and it seemed more stable, and seemed to find and fix my problem. But not sooner did I think it was fixed than a Windows security update popped in, which when installed broke my printer connection again.
But the next day, yesterday, I stumbled across another diagnostic tool at the HP on-line support web site, this one named HPHNDU.exe. The interface is much simpler and more primitive looking, but it didn't crash, and it fixed my problem, which is still fixed today, one day later. I can both print and scan. So I'm ready should I lose the connection again.
I have to say I'm not impressed with HP's service, which in this case was almost non-existent. So far HP Total Care is total rubbish.

I tried OJProL7X00_Full_14.exe for Windows 7 but have the same issue. Unfortunately the HPHNDU doesn't find any problems, and Solution Center stays at Disconnected. I can scan from (e.g.) Corel Photo and can print from everywhere (including every DU I have tried).
Seconds after installation completes, the printer status popup in the screen bottom right show a disconnected, so something is changing it. Then the fax install fails with a "no connection" error. Since this establishes where the problem occurs, it may help someone who has more knowledge than me.

Hi Mike;
HPHNDU ran with no issues.Advanced tools output looks ok, but see insert and dump below.
Ran through all dowloads suggested in HPHNDU link:
- no updates available;
- HPPDU showed no problems for either printer or fax.
Network is ok since can print & scan outside of Solution Center. Can't fax though & I really need that..

At this point, the easiest solution might be a restore point. Do you have a restore point set to before the update?
If for some reason that is a problem. The other thing that often works is to uninstall the whole solution, including the device, and then reinstalling.
Finally, there is a scan diagnostic, it is available here:

I have a restore point back before the W7 update, but I don't know how to be selective about getting only the Vista drivers for the L7680 and not all the incompatible others. The HPSDU failed at drivers the first time through, showing a MS rev 8.0.0 of 11/20/06. An uninstall with OJProL7X00_Scrubber_14 and reinstall changed that to an HP driver with the same version number and date code. It proceeded through the install as before, with a successful test print, but then the "printer disconnected" window popped up in the lower right corner and the Fax Wizard failed. After reboot the SDU is back to "scan driver is missing or corrupt". This time I did an internet search with the result that the "driver is up to date". A select from the C: drive gives a choice of the 8.0.0 of 11/20/06 or a 6.1.7600.16385 of 6/21/06.
With the 8.0.0, Driver File Details are:
C:\Windows\system32\difxapi.dll
C:\Windows\system32\drivers\serscan.sys MS 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255)
C:\Windows\system32\hpovst.dll HP 82.0.168.000
C:\Windows\system32\hppldcoi.dll HP 2.1.1.51
C:\Windows\system32\hpwtiop2.dll HP 82.0.192.000
C:\Windows\system32\hpwwiax2.dll HP 0.0.0.204
Are these correct and complete?

Has this issue been escalated or has it been dropped from any attempt at resolution? Please respond one way or the other.

Hi, If its of help my printer showed as disconnected when running solution center after the network reliability update had been installed and my machine (W7 64Bit) re-booted. Ran the diagnosyics program (HPHNDU) and clicked on the "show advance tools" button, once my printer had shown itself in the network printers box, I clicked on the printer listed and then "device services" button. The next pop up window indicated that the HP Service SLP as being installed but was stopped.
Went to services and started any HP service that had not started and made sure the following three were set to Automatic just to make sure they come on next boot. not very scientific I know !!
- HP Network devices Support
- hpqcxs08
- HP CUE DeviceDiscovery service
Shut down my solution center and re-opened it. This time the printer showed up as connected and all functions withing teh solution center responded.
Hope this is of some help.
