I have a network problem that is giving me fits. I have a HP Wireless HP C7280 All in One Printer in one of my rooms where my desktop computer resides. My son and I both have laptops that we have been able to use in a wireless network mode to print to the 7280. One day my laptop (HP dv5-1002nr)even though it shows I am connected to the IP address of the printer, would no longer cause the 7280 to print. All settings show I am connected but when I print and go to device settings it shows the document is spooling and then printing but nothing prints from the printer itself.
I have checked all the network settings, reset everything again, downloaded the latest drivers and all to no avail. My son today took 2 other laptops and was able to print wirelessly to the 7280 and he also was able to print wirelessly from the desktop in the same room as the printer so we know the issue is not with the printer. Some of these laptops are also HPs.
At first I thought perhaps there was a problem with my LAN driver but checked that and everything shows to be working and up to date. What is puzzling is I can send email wirelessly from this laptop to my modem so it obviously works in this regard. However, no matter what we have done to make sure all our settings and drivers are correct, we are still unable to make the printer print.
Anyone have any ideas as we are totally frustrated.

Have you disabled your security system's firewall? What operating system is this? Have you set a static IP address for the printer?

I am operating with Windows 7 Home Premium. I have set up a static IP address for the printer and also tried it with my Webroot Firewall off and all to no avail.

Is this an upgrade from Vista to 7 or a fresh install or new computer?
Have you tried to delete the printer and re-add it in Devices and Printers (in this manner)?
1. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by browsing to its IP address before continuing.
2. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers. Delete the current printer
3. Click the Add a printer
4. Select Local printer
5. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
6. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
7. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
8. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
9. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
11. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
12. Click Finish.

Thanks for the help.
I have an HP dv5-1002nr laptop and was originally running Vista Home Premium and upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium so it is not a new clean install of Windows 7.
Even after the upgrade the laptop was able to send printer commands to my C7280. One day without me doing anything else unusual I sent a print command and it wouldn't print. I deleted the printer and went through the wireless detection and it detected the network ip address and installed. However, each time I tried to print something I would get the HP log showing it had sent a printer command to the printer but no print job would show up.
I have an hp desktop in my utility room which hooks up wirelessly to the 7280, just as I have always had. I have AT&T uverse for my high speed internet. We use laptops from other rooms in the house to print to the 7280 on our wireless network. I have tried the advice about the firewall and antivirus programs and received the same result.
I took the laptop and hooked it direct to the 7280 and it detected the printer, installed the drivers, and printed instantly. I then deleted it and started over. On my laptop I had additional printers installed, another Epson on my usb port, and another Epson, on the other usb port. Just in case there was some issue with the other printers installed, I deleted everything and started over. I have run a registry clean up and done just about everything else I know to do. I am able to send/receive emails from my laptop through my network so I know that the laptop is connecting to this network. I know it also recognizes the 7280 when I search for available printers on the network. The network is through AT&T and it does have a security key in order to prevent others from accessing the network.
So I think you can see why this has frustrated all of us here as we have tried going through the conventional corrections.

Let's start with this patch and see how it goes.
Another thing that could be going on is that you have two installations of the printer software, but let's try the patch first.

First off, I wanted to thank everyone who offered me suggestions to help with this problem where I couldn't get my HP C7280 Wireless Printer to print by sending commands from my remote HP laptop dv5-1002nr. I was going literally out of my mind as this combination worked fine previously with Windows Vista. I installed an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium and it worked fine for a bit until I changed my internet provider from Charter to ATT U-verse. I used network troubleshooting and all other suggestions and still couldn't get it to work. Yesterday, I had just finally resigned myself that I was going to have to install another printer via usb direct, which would have been a gigantic hassle.
Tonight when I came home and fired up the computer a new HP update showed to be available for install. The update was a Windows 7 printer full capability update and it was a very large file. I was cautiously optimistic but went ahead and installed the software package and my printer immediately picked up the wireless signal from my laptop and I was back in business just like the old days. I guess this was just released as I didn't see it available yesterday.
In any case, thanks again to all you experts on this forum. I have come to truly appreciate all of you out there who form this great community.
Randy

If this sounds like your issue:
After installing the product on a network, you turn the computer off, and then on, and the product loses functionality. The product no longer prints and the product icon disappears from the Devices and Printers menu in Windows 7 (64-bit).
Try this fix:
