Share this printer - List in directory won't stay checked

Can't get my HP Laserjet P2035 to network / share and list in the directory.  I check the box, hit apply (says "the directory operation may take several minutes), okay (close), then after several minutes i check the directory and its not listed. I reopen the sharing menu and it's unchecked again!  Why won't this thing share?

Printer Sharing is a Microsoft feature and should work on P2035. Go to "Printer Properties", "Sharing" tab, click on "Share this printer", set a "Share name".

Would you explain the options of Render print jobs on client computer and List in Directory in print properties?
