I cannot print to my HP C7280 all-in-one printer conected to a wireless network from my desktop PC running Windows XP with SP3.
My desktop pc has a cable connection to a Netgear wireless router and is able to access broadband internet access through it.
When checking the network configuration from the printer, it confirms that it is connected to the network, but my PC still cannot detect it.
After several weeks of inbility to print and trying to check any router faults, I downloaded and installed the recent printer driver update and it did work that day, but hasn't worked since. for a time, i was able to print using my laptop which connects wirelessly to the network, but now even that won't work.
I'm running out of ideas - any suggetions please?

try to ping the ip address of your printer, but first, you need to know the ip address.
*HOw to Print the network config page to know the ip address of the printer
>press setup button on your printer
>scroll down menu to network, then press ok
>select view network settings, then press ok
>press ok to select print network configuration page
*Once you know the ip address, try to ping the ip address from your computer
>start
>run
>type cmd then press ok!
> in the command prompt window, type this command
PING <1 SPACE> then the ip address of the printer. Example is
PING 192.168.1.160
*if the results doesnt tell you about request timed out, this means that you are able to ping the ip address.
*NOw, check if the default printer icon on printers and faxes is using the IP Port address printed on network configuration page
>start
>control panel
>printers and faxes
>right click default printer which is your photosmart c7200
>select properties
>click ports tab
>then check under port tab window if the port that has the check mark is the one that you ping from the command prompt. You may move the small vertical line between the PORT and Description to view the complete name of the ports
*IF the ports tab is not using the ip port address (which has the checkmark) that you ping from command prompt, you can perform this steps to ADD PORT
>in the ports tab window, click add port
>select standard tcp/ip, then ok
>click next to open the add port wizard
>type the ip address on the printer name. Typing the printer name on the field will also automatically fill up the IP address below the printer name
>click next buttons to finish the wizard
> then, going back to the ports tab, hit apply and then check if the port that has the checkmark is the one that you had newly created
*after performing this add port, try to print test page.
regards,
kiko

I have a similar problem but I can ping my printer and it is on the right port. I can scan over my home network and even print a diagnostic test page. I just can't print over the wireless network. This has been going on for a while and is making me crazy. It happened once before and checking the port fixed it but not this time.
Any ideas?

You can scan wirelessly but you can't print? It's usually just the opposite.
Can you describe your network?
- What type of wireless-router are you using?
- What type of PC are you running?
- Do you have a SW firewall (e.g. Norton/Symantec, Zonealarm, McAfee, etc) on your PC?
Finally, you can try adding the print driver manually to see if we can get you printing. This sequence works for XP:
- Click "Start" button --> Printers and Faxes.
- Under Printer Tasks, click "Add Printer".
- Click "Next" button on the first Add Printer Wizard window.
- If the option for Local or Network printer appears, select Local printer attached to this computer and click Next. Make sure that "Automatically detect and install My Plug and play printer" option is unchecked.
- Under Select a Printer Port option, select "Create a new port" and select "Standard TCP/IP Port" and click "Next" button.
- In the "Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP printer port wizard" make sure that the printer is turned on and configured. Click "Next" button.
- Under "Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port" enter the printer's host name (that is hostname of printer that printed in netwotrk configuration page)
- under "Additional Port Information" select "Standard". Click Next, and then click Finish.
- Now, select HP from the list of manufacturers, select your printer from the list of Printer models and click 'Next' button.
- The Printer name will be highlighted on the next window.
- Click "Next" button.
- It ask for the Printer name -- leave it as is.
- Select "Yes" option for making the printer default.
- Click "Next" button.
- The Printer Sharing dialog box will open.
- Click "Next" button.
- The Print Test Page box appears.
- Select "Yes" option to print a test page.
- Print Test Page.
- Completing the Add Printer Wizard box appears.
- Click "Finish" button and wait for the files to copy

Your questions got me thinking so I disabled my firewall and, voila, I can print. Obviously, I don't want to leave the firewall disabled so can you walk me through what I should do. Terribly naive, I am sure.
I am running XP on a 2 year old Inspiron E1705, Older Linxsys WRT54G router and McAfee Security Center.
I would love to get this fixed.
Thanks for your help!

This link will show you how to configure the McAfee firewall so that HP programs are allowed access to your local network.

If you have the same problem AND have Norton Security Suite, you can do a similar fix as shown above.
1. Open Norton Security Suite
2. Click on PC Security
3. Choose Manage Firewall from the pull down menu
4. Click the Program Rules tab
5. Move down the list and every line that references an HP product change the Access column from AUTO to ALLOW
( make sure to look at all items all the way to the bottom of the list as they are not in strict alphabetical order)
6. You should be up and printing now.

My Photosmart C7280 is connected to a Linksyss wireless router model WRT310N-RM
via a 6 foot ethernet cable. I changed the cable and it made no difference.
I have tried rebooting the printer, the router, the cable modem, and the computer. I un-installed and re-installed HP driver, etc. on my Gateway laptop, model MX3215, which is running XP home.
When I go though the ping test; I get a positive result;
however, when I try to open properties window, I receive the following error message:
" Printer properties cannot be displayed. The print spooler service is not running."
Do you have any suggestions?
Thank you in advance...

Well I have partial solution. I uninstalled the HP Full Feature Software and Drivers and installed the HP Potosmart Basic Drivers. I can now print; however, I cannot figure out how to print on two sides or a sheet of paper without rotating and re-inserting the paper by hand. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate your making them.
Meanwhile I guess I will have to wait until HP fixes its Full Feature software so that it will actually work.
