Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

I tried this and it worked ONCE just like most of the suggestions I've been able to find.

I've had my 6500a for about a year and it was fine for about 8-9 months but has slowed down since then to be almost unusable.

Would be nice if the USB and wireless ports could both be active.

USB and wireless CAN be active all at the same time, but not Ethernet and wireless.

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

I have written to HP repeatedly about my printer and nothing has ever helped they have suggested. The diagnostics don't work very well either. I am operating my 6500A Plus on a wireless network. It takes sometimes an hour for it to print 10 pages. The diagnostics says it is not connected, yet it prints. The Cisco router is about 4 feet away from it. I will not change my security just for a printer. I use WPA2 security. I can pick up my network from my neighbor's house about 120 feet away, so the signal is very good. The printer will print one line then take a break of up to several minutes. The wireless light is on steady. There are dozens of complaints about these printers on line, yet HP has done nothing about the problem. I have used HP printer for years. The old 890C never failed me and still works. I upgraded to a 970 C and it worked okay except it would not handle card stock like the 890C did. I needed a scanner so I bought an HP6300 and it failed within 7 months. They refunded my money then I added some and bought the 6500A Plus. Each generation of HP printers gets worse about dependablility. My warranty may be expired on it by now, but I have been reporting trouble with it since I got it. It just will not print worth a hoot.

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

Experiencing same problem. Worked great wirelessly when my Mac OSx detected wireless printer and installed drivers for me. When I needed to scan, however, I was forced to download software from HP and then connect via USB. Ever since then, printing wirelessly has been a major problem - prints first thing, then afterwards get stuck.

I used the steps mentioned here with my Mac OSx. Not only did this solution not work, but I am no longer able to connect to my printer's internal settings either via 192.168.0.111 or (the new setting) 192.168.1.220.

Please advise.

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

It may be your router.  What router are you using?  What version of OS X?

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

Restart your router by pulling its power cord momentarily.  Let it restart.

Reset the printing system:

- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

After resetting printer, and then attempting to add a printer, it showed up. Linked it to HP 6500 drivers, but while attempting to print showed "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds...". (sidenote: doesn't retry in 30 seconds).

This happened before - after I changed the IP address of my printer to 1.220.

Make sure your router has updated firmware and is freshly restarted.

Also, reset your printing system again.

Re: Very slow printing via wireless to HP 6500E710n-z

I did restart the router last time. Unplugged and waited for 10 secs. Sorry forgot to mention.

How do I check to see if my router's firmware is updated?
