WPA2 with C4780

Can the C4780 work with a WPA2 network?

If not, is there likely to be a future WPA2 driver for the C4780?

Thanks for any help!

Re: WPA2 with C4780

Tell me more.

Do you mean a network with WPA2 encryption?  Yes (just use WPA).

What operating system are you using and how are you trying to connect the printer and to what?

Re: WPA2 with C4780

My home network uses only WPA2 (PSK-AES) encryption (as opposed to WPA or WEP). (In earlier days, some laptops could only use WPA, and not WPA2.)

As the documentation and examples for the C4780 only use WPA as examples, I was wondering whether "WPA" in the examples included "WPA2"-encryption.

I use Win XP pro. I haven't bought the printer yet, as I wasn't sure whether I could connect it to a WPA2 network.

And thank you for a quick answer, from Norway!

Re: WPA2 with C4780

Yes, the C4780 supports WPA2-PSK encryption with both TKIP and AES algorithms.  The printer's default setting is to automatically select the correct encryption (WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK) and to automatically select the correct algorithm (TKIP or AES) so you won't be asked these questions during setup.

Re: WPA2 with C4780

Thank you so much!

A tip for the people who write manuals, etc: mention "WPA2" somewhere, as I almost didn't buy this since it wasn't mentioned anywhere at all!

Best regards.

Re: WPA2 with C4780

I guess the J4680 similarly works with WPA2?

(Just making sure! ;-) )

Again, thank you!

Re: WPA2 with C4780

Yes -- the J4680 supports WPA2-PSK.

All HP wireless inkjet printers have supported WPA2-PSK since 2005.

Re: WPA2 with C4780

I had a problem with my new HP Photosmart C4795 recognizing my wireless network.  I spent about 20 minutes on the phone with HP support and they fixed my issue.  I have a Macbook Pro using OSX .6 Snow Leopard.  I could print via USB connection after clicking on the Apple>Software update>(while the USB was connected) no problem.  However, when I tried to set up the wireless network no networks were recognized.  I ran a wireless network test page and it showed FAIL on Network Name (SigmaplusEOL1).  Another post on a forum I was looking at said that a batch of this printer type came from the factory with the default network SSID of SigmaplusEOL1 instead of hpsetup.  It said that you would have to return it to the store for another if yours had the SigmaplusEOL1.  This isn't true!  HERE'S THE LINK TO THE ONLY DOWNLOAD YOU NEED FOR MAC OSX v6.

 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-70896-3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&...

Simply select "Download>>" at the top of the page.  When it's done, just click on the file to install.  It looks exactly like the file off the CD that didn't work so I wasn't sure it would work but when it got to the screen where you select whether or not you want to install the wireless option and click the box, press continue, and presto! it comes up with the available networks.  Select the one you want to use, put in your WPA network password and your good to go.

Re: WPA2 with C4780

I have a HP Photosmart c4780 and I can tell you it doesn't support wifi networks created using Windows 7 support for virtual Access Points (using Connectify for example).

Specifically, it only supports Ad-hoc mode, I saw this when trying to connect the printer and my Nexus One to the same network created by my notebook. The Nexus One was able to connect but the printer wouldn't.
