I own a second home also with a wireless network. What are the steps to take to reconnect my wireless OfficeJet Pro 8500 A910 to that second wireless network? When I set my printer back up in my first home's network, am I going to have to reconfigure the printer for the original wireless network or will it automatically detect the wireless network and let me select which wireless network to connect to?

Hi Whitless,
You will need to run the wireless setup wizard at each home to reconnect to that network.
Connect using the Wireless Setup Wizard
- Set up the product (see the getting started guide or the setup poster that came with your product).
- On the product touch screen, touch the Right Arrow (
) to open the second navigation screen. - Touch Network (
) to open the Network menu. - Touch Wireless .
- Touch Wireless Setup Wizard , and then touch Continue .
- Wait while the product searches for routers that are within range of the product. The Select Network (SSID) menu displays.
- Scroll down the list of network names until you find the name of your network .
- Touch the name of your network .
NOTE:Your network name does not display on the Select Network (SSID) menu if your network settings have SSID broadcasting turned off or if a network problem exists. - If the list does not contain your network name, follow these steps to enter it manually:
- On the Select Network (SSID) screen, scroll to and and then touch Enter New Network Name . An on-screen keyboard displays.
- Enter the network name (SSID).
NOTE:Make sure that you type the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail. - When you finish entering the new network name, touch Done . The product searches for that specific SSID.
NOTE:If the SSID is not found after manually typing the network name, contact your network administrator or the person who set up the wireless network to confirm the SSID/network settings. Once the SSID is found, the product determines if the network has a security key and what type of key it is.
- If prompted, enter the WEP or WPA key using the on-screen keyboard.
NOTE:You must type the exact uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail. - Touch Done , and then touch OK . The product connects to the network.
NOTE: If a connection error message displays, make sure that the network name and security key are correct. Follow the prompts to enter the information again.

Thank you very, very much! The detailed instructions you sent sucessfully connected my printer to the new-found network. I printed out my printer's status and everything passed or was found as it should have been - "No problems found. Congratulations on the successful setup of your wireless printer." Diagnotics Summary shows everything "Pass", and the Configurations Summary identifies the SSID correctly and Encryption being 128-bit WEP.
However comma, I went to print a test document and although the Windows printer status window shows the document "Printing", nothing is being printed. Do I need to power the printer down and then power it back up to read the new network settings?

Hi Whitless,
Please download and run the Print and Scan Doctor from the link below. Let me know what errors you receive?

I downloaded and ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor application as recommended. Although it found my wireless HP printer, I couldn't select the "Show Wireless Info" button because it was "grayed out" so I couldn't select it. The tool didn't tell me anything I didn't know. It inferred that my firewall could be the issue, so I disabled it, sent something to the printer, the WIndows Printer Status window showed "printing", but nothing was printed. Overall, I'm not too impressed with the tool. Since I can't get my printer to work on this network, I'm really concerned I will have the same problem when I go back to my primary home and try to reconnect to my wireless network there. My last resort is to call HP Support. What would be the number you would recommend me to call?

Hi Whitless,
What is the IP address assigned to the printer?
When you type the printers IP address in the address bar of IE does it show the printer information?

When I entered the printer's IP address in the IE address bar (http://[printer IP address], nothing was displayed. When I hit Enter, the attempted connection eventually timed out, again with nothing displayed other than the Gateway timeout message.
If that is key to my problem, please let me know and I'll hold off calling HP printer support.

Hi Whitless,
What is the IP address assigned to the printer?
Follow the instructions below to get the IP address of the computer
1. Type CMD in the run or search for programs and files, and then hit enter
2. Type ipconfig at the DOS prompt
Let me know what the IPv4 Address & the default Gateway address is on the computer?
It appears that your computer and printer may not be on the same network, or you have a firewall program which is blocking the communication with the printer.

They are definitely on the same network:
IP address of printer: 192.168.2.102
IP address of laptop: 192.168.2.100
IP address of Default Gateway: 192.168.2.
When I pinged the printer, all four packets timed out. I just don't understand this network configuration. I would not have thought reconnecting a wireless printer to a different wireless network would be so frustrating.
Any addition suggests now that you know that information?

HI Whitless,
Ok, Sounds like you have a start up program or firewall which is blocking the communication between the printer and computer. Follow the steps in the document below until you are successfully able to ping the IP address of the printer.
