Why does https not work

Dear all,

when I access my HPDJ3050A via http:1.1.1.1 it works, when I change to settings - security (Einstellungen - Sicherheit) the address changes to https://1.1.1.1/#hId-pgSecurity it fails with an "Internal System Error".

What to do? The same error occurs also if the firewall (Win 7 64bit Home) is disabled.

Kind regards,

ME

Re: Why does https not work

IP 1.1.1.1 seems strange. What wireless router are you using?

I'm guessing that you are accessing the http to get to the embedded web server. Is that correct?

Re: Why does https not work

1.1.1.1 is not the real IP address, however, I did not want to disclose the real one.

Re: Why does https not work

The Embedded Web Server http://1.1.1.1 will come up without security and change to a https: when private information needs to be exchanged. Sometimes the EWS is a little slow and the browser will time out. A retry will usually resolve that issue.
Can you tell if the "internal system error" is a browser error or a printer error? Does it happen every time?

Re: Why does https not work

I am using the printer now for a couple of weeks and once I could successfully access the https pages.

Today I tried it again and it failed, however, based on your recommendation I used reload and it helps if applied multiple times. I would estimate the failure rate still above 50%.

The internal error does not look like any browser error I know. I also is white text on the black HP background. So I assume it is a printer error.

I cannot say that the issue is solved, however, with multiple reload the goal can be achieved, as this pages are usually used seldomly.

Re: Why does https not work

[ Edited ]

Having exactly the same problem with a new Officejet Pro 8100 N811a.

The EWS responds to http requests just fine, but as soon as it tries to load anything via https, the connection times out.

I get as far as entering my password, confirming the "redirect to https" message, and then it just hangs.

I've tried to connect to the printer with several browsers on multiple devices (Mac, Linux box, iPad), with and without a proxy server (including trying to refresh the page multiple times).

The printer is connected to and recognised by OS X (I can print no problem), and the OS X HP Utility works fine, but of course, a lot of the printer's configuration options (including, durr, firmware updates) are only available on the EWS via https.

Re: Why does https not work

Well, I just rang the technical support (after a long hunt for the number).

Apparently, it's a known problem with the Officejet Pro 8100 printer, and there'll be a firmware update to fix the problem.

They didn't know when it might be coming.

Re: Why does https not work

I have the same problem when accessing my printer (HP Deskjet 3050A All-in-One Printer - J611a), over https.

I have checked for firmware updates, and the utility reports its up to date (my version is SMP1FN1115AR)

Refreshes don't help me, they just show a half drawn screen
