Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

HP Photosmart Premium Fax All-in-One Printer - C309a.  Running Windows 7 32 and 64 bit PCs.

I have had my HP C309a for almost two years.  I also have a C410a.  My PCs have been able to connect to both printers wirelessly.  For the last several months I have not been able to connect to the C309a.

What I have tried, a sequential accounting:

  1.  I tried rebooting the printer, the router and the PCs and still could not connect.
  2. I tried the wireless wizzard, from the printer, to reestablish a new connection to my router.  The wizzard never comes back - it just searches for ever.  This is strange as there are probably 5 detectable networks in proximity of my home.  My SSID is hidden but the others should show up after which I should have an an option to configure a Network connection.
  3. When this didn't worrk I selected. from the Printer menu, a reset of initial settings.
  4. I reattempted trying to use the wireless wizzard to detect a network but again it searches for ever.
  5. I noticed an error kept cropping up about an incompatible USB device.  But I have no USB devise in the printer.
  6. So, at this point I decided to do away with wireless and connected the printer to one PC via USB cable (this is after the USB error mind you).  I am able to print now but I cannot scan and the USB error still remains.

Idealy I would like to get rid of the USB error and access the printer wirelessly again.  Failing that I would like to eliminate the USB error and be able to fully use the Printer (Scanner as well as printer).

Does anyone have any idea on how to resolve these issues?

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

It sounds like you might have an issue with your wireless radio. What you can do is print out a wireless test report and it should tell you "yes" or "no" if the wireless radio is working.

Let us know what you find out.

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

I ran the wireless network test report.  Wireless on was pass, wireless working was fail.

Ok. Is the bluetooth off or on ? Sometimes if bluetooth is on it might disrupt the connection.

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

Sorry for the dely.  I was on vacation and saw no email notifications of a new reply.  Blue tooth is on.  I will try turning it off and see if I can connect wirelessly to my router.

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

Turning off the Blue Tooth did not help.  I reently received an email from HP for "HP Print and Scan Doctor (ver 2.0)".  I downloaded this and ran it for the scanner function.  It failed on several items and did not help.  I am so disappointed because HP printers have always been so reliable.

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

Wisesilver,

I had sent you a private message containing some additional steps that are not public.  I hope you do not mind receiving a private message.

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

I followed your "Private" Instructions. It will still not find any wireless networks - it continues to search.  I then turned off Blue tooth and tried again.  Still no luck.  Next I conntected it to my computer by USB cable.  It will now scan and print while connected wirelessly (previously you could not scan).

Is there any hope in getting the wireless working again?  I have other computers that need the wireless to print (my two son's).

Thanks!

Re: Wireless Wizard does not detect any networks

It sounds like the features are working through the USB connection rather than the wireless connection since it is still not seeing the networks.

Everything points to a hardware failure since the steps provided through the private message did not work and the wireless test showed it had failed.  Sorry.

You do have some options at this point.

If it is under warranty, either standard or extended, you can contact HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it serviced under warranty.

If it is out of warranty, you can still contact HP support to find out all the options and the cost of each option.  However, it is my opinion that this money would be better spend being applied towards a new printer.
