Wireless connection problem; Deskjet F4580, OS Windows 7(64 bit)

Bought this machine (F4580) on Saturday and have now spent over 8 hours trying to get wireless to work.  Spent over an hour on the phone with HP support while the tech had control of my computer today and still no solution.

1st install - used CD that came with printer and chose wireless install.  When I connect the USB at the time the instructions tell me to do so, it says it is installing but then it jams - it will say "installing" for over 30 minutes and I have to use task manager to get out.

2nd install - again used CD, same result

3rd install - got drivers from HP online - same result

Called HP tech support - tech downloaded from HP website - same result for him, too

I didn't stay on the line for any further help - this took well over an hour and I just got off the phone because I had to get some dang work done at some point today.

4th install - tried again from disk, same result.

The printer will work fine with a USB connection - even though when I was installing it was supposedly for a wireless install and then it hung before completing.  I am about to take this thing back and get a different printer if this cannot be resolved asap and without major technical lingo that, frankly, confuses me.  I bought it solely for the wireless, since I already own a printer that requires a USB connection so if it won't work it is useless to me.

Any suggestions?

Tell me about your network - router brand/model, encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc) and ISP type (DSL, Cable, etc).

Also, what security system are you using?

Re: Wireless connection problem; Deskjet F4580, OS Windows 7(64 bit)

I too am having the exact same issue with the exact same printer. I can not figure out this issue.

"I recently set up a HP Wireless Deskjet F4580 (F4500 series). It works fine at first from my computer via wireless. After about 30-45 mins it won't work. Any print job i send to that printer won't print. It is almost like the printer went to sleep and won't wake back up to print the job. I set up a static IP for it and looked all over the configuration page for any timeout sleep mode or anything. I couldn't find a single thing. I can not figure this out to save my life. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what did you do to fix it?"

Westdell Dsl Modem (in bridged mode), Netgear Router, Ubuntu 10.10, HLPIP (standard version precompiled in Ubuntu 10.10)

The issue has been resolved. I believe the problem was upnp was enabled on my router. I disabled it and i believe the advertisement period was causing this issue. I just manually configured all my port forwarding and it seemed to have done the trick.

Re: Wireless connection problem; Deskjet F4580, OS Windows 7(64 bit)

I have the same problem where the printer used to work, then worked intermittently, then does not work at all wirelessly.  Have been with tech support total of about 6 hours, uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.  Installation gets stuck while switching from USB to wireless.  I have had it with this machine and am not happy that they won't replace it or give me my money back and I only have a few days before warranty wheres out.

What router do you use?  What kind of encryption (WEP, WPA, etc.)?

Download and install the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

Re: Wireless connection problem; Deskjet F4580, OS Windows 7(64 bit)

Similar problem here...

I have had this printer for a little over 2 years.  Im using a cisco E3000 router, WPA2 encryption...I have it hard-wired into my desktop and use it wireless from my laptop.  Hardwire connection works fine, but the wireless connection has issues.  I got everything installed initially just fine, but over time it had intermitent wireless connection issues and I would have to reinstall the All-in-One driver to get it to connect again.  At one point, I thought there might be some IP conflicts, so I reserved a specific IP for the printer to see if that would help.  Last night I tried to print to it, and it was listed as "offline".  I could not get it to connect no matter what I tried.  I 'unreserved" the IP address to see if the router would assign it a new one, but it still tries to connect to the one (which is available according to my DHCP host table).

I really like this printer, but these connectivity issues are very frustrating....last night was the first time it just simply would not connect wirelessly, no matter if I use the WiFi Protected Setup, manually entered IP address, nothing. It has worked in the past, for extended periods of time...I just dont understand what changes.
