Wireless printer connection

  • I have recently set up a wireless network in my home and I am wondering if I can set up my Hp PSC 750 xi all in one printer to the network so that I can print documents that I have generated from my laptop?

Re: Wireless printer connection

It is possible to set it up. If the printer is wireless, then you can probably connect the printer wirelessly to your wireless network. Or if It's not wireless, then you will have to connect an ethernet cable to the printer ant the wireless router. Follow the steps below to set up the printer on every computer on the network:

  1. Connect the printer to the network (Wireless or Ethernet)
  2. Find out the IP Address of the printer (You can do so by looking under the status and settings of the printer, or going to the My Network Places folder and enabling the display of UPnP Devices)
  3. Go to Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes, and click on Add a Printer.
  4. Press Next, and click the bullet that says Local Printer Attached to this Computer (uncheck the option that says Automatically Detect and Install my Plug and Play printer)
  5. Press Next, and click the bullet that says Create a New Port. Click the Drop Down arrow, and then click on Standard TCP/IP Port.
  6. Press Next, and another window will open. Press Next, and then type in the IP Address that you found out on step 2. It is recommended that you do NOT change the port name.
  7. Make sure that the printer is powered on, and press next. It should detect the printer. The Adapter Type should say: Hewlett Packard Jet Direct (If it is a Hewlett Packard printer)
  8. Press Next, and it will ask you if you want to share the printer. It is NOT recommended that you share the printer,
  9. Press Finish, and wait for it to load. Once loaded, click on the Have Disk button, and insert the CD or DVD that came with your printer. If it doesn't load automatically, then click the Browse button. Select the DVD or CD drive under 'My Computer', then press OK.
  10. After it finishes loading, select the type of printer you have, and press Next. You can rename it to any name of your choice. If you want it to be the default printer, then select the bullet that says Yes. If no, then select No.
  11. Press Next, and then it will ask you if you want to share the printer. It is NOT recommended that you share the printer, because it could lead to network confusion with setting it up.
  12. Press Next, and it will ask you if you want to print a test page. If you want to, then press Yes. If not, then press No.
  13. Press Next, then it will display the finish page. If you are satisfied with all of the settings, then press finish. A copying window will appear, meaning that it will transfer the driver from the CD/DVD to your computer. If you pressed Yes for printing a test page, a confirmation window will appear asking you if the test page came out correctly. If it did, then press OK, and you have finished installing the printer. Please follow this same process when installing on another computer.

If you have any problems, please send me a reply or a personal message, and I will be willing to help you resolve the problem.

Re: Wireless printer connection

Where do you plug the ethernet into the printer?  On the back there is a spot for an roundish usb cord and the power cord hole.  How can I get the hp psc 750 to work with my laptop wirelessly?  Thanks for any help.

Okay then. If you want to make your printer wireless, you have to create a home workgroup. For this, you must have another computer (Such as a desktop) with the printer connected to it, a wireless router, and the computer needs to be connected to the wireless router through wireless or an ethernet cable.

To set up a workgroup:

  • >go to start
  • >Right Click My Computer
  • >click Properties
  • >Click on the Computer Name tab
  • >Click the Change Button Below
  • >In the computer name box, type whatever you want the name of the computer to be
  • >Select the Workgroup option below
  • >type in a workgroup name (Such as Home, Office, your name, etc.)
  • >press Ok. Two message boxes will appear: One saying 'Welcome to the [Workgroup Name] Workgroup" and the other saying "You may need to restart your computer for changes to take effect". Press Ok on both of the boxes
  • > Restart the computer, and repeat this process on the laptop with a different name but the same information you entered on the other computer with the printer connected to it. Make sure the laptop is connected to the wireless router.

In order for you to connect to the printer on your laptop, you need to share the printer on the other computer:

  • Go To Start
  • Click on Control Panel
  • Click on printers and faxes (classic view)
  • Right click on the printer you want to use from your laptop
  • click on sharing
  • a bullet saying 'Do Not Share This Printer' should be selected. Click on 'Share This Printer'
  • Either type a name for it or use the default name
  • Press Ok.

The Printer is now being shared. To add it on the laptop:

  • go to start
  • click on control panel
  • go to printers and faxes
  • click "Add a Printer"
  • The Add Printer wizard will appear. Click next
  • click the bullet that says 'A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer'
  • Press next
  • Make sure 'Browse for a printer' is selected, and press next
  • the computer with the printer connected should appear. Double-Click it to expand the list of printers (there should only be one)
  • Click on the printer and press next
  • If a warning message pops up, press Yes or OK
  • If you want to make it the default printer, press the bullet that says Yes, and press next.
  • Press Finish

You have successfully installed your printer to be wireless. The computer with the printer connected must be on if you want to print from the laptop. If you have any questions or problems, please tell me and I will be more than happy to resolve them.

Re: Wireless printer connection

Your printer has a USB interface ONLY.  It does not have a port or provisions for Ethernet.  It will not connect directly to your router (unless you have a router with a USB port for printing, which is rare)

If you do share the printer as it is plugged into another computer you can share the printing function only, not scanning.

As old as this printer is, it may be time to upgrade to a wireless printer that can connect to a router and have printing and scanning available to all computers on the network.

Re: Wireless printer connection

I'll assume you have XP.

First, on the desktop, go to Start, Printers.  Select the printer you want to share, right click and choose sharing.  Check the box that says "Share this printer".  OK.

Now, go to the other computer (assuming it is on the same router (network)) and install the printer software from here.  Next, on that computer go to Start, Printers and Add a Printer.  Add a network printer when it asks.  You should see the printer listed as a network printer.
