I would choose none of those. When you are adding your printer, use the Default tab.
What printer? How is it connected to the Airport (USB, Ethernet or wireless)?

HP Deskjet 3050 series all in one is the printer (it was bundled with my Macbook Pro) and I was following the HP CD install directions for wireless connection to my airport. FYI, it prints fine with USB connection but would like to also have wireless printing capability.
HP Install Directions were clear until install advised me to click "Add Printer," which took me to the proper site in my Macbook Pro's sys prefs for printers. All selections were clear: Printer name, IP address, etc, but not the protocol to select. The selection that opened when I clicked the "add printer" link was LDP, which I then selected.
I finished the install, printer shows up, and I can print out "Printer Status Report." But when I attempt to print doc from the mac, I receive message "printer busy, retry in xx seconds...." This failure led me back to the install. The only thing I wasn't sure of was, again, "protocol selection." Is the question clearer? Thanks

Yeah, the problem was adding the printer via the IP tab instead of the Default tab.
It sounds like the printer is actually connected to your wirless network, right?
If so, reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Print & Scan
- Right (or control) click in the rectangle listing your printers and select Reset Printing System.
WARNING - this will delete ALL of your printers!
- Select the plus sign to re-add a printer. Select the Defualt tab on the top of the window. Look for the printer, select it and wait until the "Add" button becomes available. Click it.

Unfortunately and for no apparent reason the printer is now showing "not connected." Beyond that your directions as given don't conform with the laptop's options. I guess I will try reinstall and see if I can choose default on protocol and not use IP. Thanks,

Print a Wireless Network Test from the front of the printer to determine if it is actually connected to your wireless network.
What version of OS X do you use? Is yours an Airport Extreme, Express or Time Capsule?

Thank you for your suggestions, but I deleted and then reinstalled the printer for wireless connection, and, when the process failed again, I asked a tech friend for help. She found the printer on "bonjour," clicked the printer entry, and miracuously the printer connected to my airport and is working fine in tandem with my Mac. Since these HP printers were bundled with Macs already equipped with the "Bonjour" connection, it would have saved me a lot of time if this alternative method had been noted either in CD setup or somewhere in this forum. If your an HP employee maybe you could pass this suggestion up the lin? Thanks again.

Yeah, that is what I expected, but isn't the bonjour version of the printer listed in the Default tab like I have been saying?
What version of OS X?
