Re: c309a wireless radio not functioning

dj_boomer,

Would you mind putting some details or pictures on how you did this...or more specifically where on the board?

I replaced the card about a year ago or so and no the new one has failed.  I currently have an ethernet cable wired in, but it's a little messy.

I have a solder gun and I could probably use a hair-dryer has a heat gun (maybe?), but looking at these cards, not sure what/how you re-soldered?

Would you mind?

Thanks,

Jeff

Re: A Range Extender?? Sounds easy...

Do I understand correctly that a Range Extender will work as the radio card? In other words, all I need to buy is the Range Extender? My HP Photosmart Premium C309g doesn't work either, and never did. I thought the problem was that I didn't know how to set up the connection. Finally figured out how to run a test, and the wireless radio doesn't work. Huh. Well, if the Range Extender does the job, I will be happy.

Re: A Range Extender?? Sounds easy...

It worked perfectly for me, and if I remember correctly, I had it up and running in  a couple minutes.  Used the Diamond Wireless Router which was recommended in this thread (around page 18 if I remember correctly).  It is available at Amazon for $60.  The printer has been working fine ever since....(cheaper than buying a new printer, and I liked the ability of this one to print on cd's)

I finally found a 1150-7931 card for $89. All the places with cheaper prices were sold out and were not going to get any more. 1-800-797-7164

I read all the posts and there is clearly a product defect in the radio card. It takes 5 minutes to replace the card (you will need a torix screwdriver.

I too will never buy another HP product. I have 2 desktops, 2 laptops and 3 printers, all HP but never again. {Content Removed: legal discussion}

Hi,

I hope someone who has installed the Diamond WR300N  Wireless range extender gets this post soon because I could really usea little help.  I purchased the repeater and have it hooked up.  I shared my laptop on my wireless system but I am not getting any response from the printer.  Could someone please give me a few minutes of their time to help me troubleshoot this thing and get it online?  My e-mail is [Personal Information Removed]

Re: c309a wireless radio not functioning

I had the same problem and got the same messages.  In checking "My Computer" the computer did show a phanthom USB drive in use.  I had nothing attached.   Next I put a USB flash storage dirive in the in that drive and it added another drive letter.  Using the computer's safely eject hardware at the right bottom tray, I ejected first the phanthom drive, then the drive that actually did have the  flashdrive in it and then removed the flashdrive.  I then  tried  "Setup", " Wireless Network wizzard"  on the printer and it did find the network.  Reintered password phrase, and good to go.  No more "Wirless Radio Failure" .  This happened to me twice.  Do not undersand what causes the computer to show something in the USB drive when there isn't anything.  When detaching USB hardware I always use the safely remove feature.  HP needs to do some updating on these glitches. Many people probably installed new wireless radio parts  or got rid of their printers thinking the wireless raidio was dead.

Re: c309a wireless radio not functioning

I just installed a Diamond WR300N  Wireless range extender to fix my c309a printer.  The WR300N needs to be configured as a "wireless bridge" (ie, it sends/receives to your wireless router and uses an ethernet cable to send/receive to your printer).  The device is small (4x2x2 inches) and has prongs to plug into an AC outlet. The 3-foot ethernet cable plugs into the ethernet port on the printer (and is also used to setup the device initially).  Note that the device will only talk to a single network (the one you tell it during setup).

To setup, you'll need your network SSID, type of security (ex:WEP), passcode or passphrase, and channel number (ie, all the info from your router).   Important: select "Manual Setup" (not "Auto Setup") since you want to set up as a wireless bridge" (not a "range extender", etc.).  Just fill in the fields, hit "Apply", and wait for the device to respond with further instructions (ie, "close browser and restart the device").  That's all I did and the printer is working fine.  Note: I didn't make any changes under the System tab (ie, left login as the factory default and didn't change the static IP address - I read some reviews where they changed these?).

The following sites had photos, reviews, and instructions:

http://www.howtogeek.com

http://the-gadgeteer.com

Note: I've had 3 wireless cards fail in the 3 years I've owned the printer (2 cards came direct from hp, and one I bought on-line net).  Each lasted about a year.  Also, the various other solutions mentioned in this forum didn't work at all or just for a short time (I was really hoping the "phantom USB device" solution would work - but no such luck).

Re: c309a wireless radio not functioning

The C309 is a very good boat anchor.  Albeit, in light weather conditions.  As a printer, Good Will here it comes.
