cannot print to HP Photosmart C4580 from Macbook Pro over wireless, but it works over USB [ Edited ]

I have had this printer for a couple of years, and previously made it work on my personal laptop.  However now I am trying to use my work macbook pro, and having some problems.  I installed the software, and can successfully print when the printer is directly connected over USB.  I am trying to use my wireless network though. I added the printer by IP address (which was provided during the setup) and now when I try to print when not connected, the print queue says "Unable to connect to printer; will retry in 30 seconds".  

Some more details:

My network is from my AT&T router (2WIRE138), and uses WPA2 encryption.  I am not hiding the SSID or using MAC-filtering.  The devices that are connected to my network are my macbook pro, my iPhone and my Vizio TV.  My Roku, Apple TV, and Wii also connect to it, but they are not turned on right now. The printer has a legitimate IP address (192.168.1.73) however this page does not open in Safari.  The anti-virus software that is on my computer is Trend Micro Security (put on by employer) and the firewall is just the standard OS X one I believe.

I have tried turning the printer off and on again, several times. I am sure the wireless network SSID and password are correct, and the network is functioning properly since I'm online.

I am having a similar problem with my Photosmart C310 with 2 differences.  I originally set it up with my MacBook Pro and everytning was fine.  However, we had to replace our Netgear wireless router and bought a D-link. Since the replacement I have not been able to print wirelessly except when I type the printer IP address into my browser and print from that website. I have no trouble printing when connected directly with a  USB cable.  When I try to print wirelessly from an application the printer  window indicates that it is printing i.e. "75% complete", and then switches to "Network host( --correct IP address for printer) is busy will retry in 5 seconds".  The number of seconds keeps increasing with retrys and nothing prints.

I have uninstalled and re-installed the software twice after checking for upgrades.  The printer and computer are having no connection problems with the network. I have used the printer's IP address as the printer name.
