cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

[ Edited ]

My new cm1415fnw laserjet pro works great on the wired network, but I am having problems setting it up on the wireless network.

from the front panel, when i activate the wireless setup wizard, the front panel says "retrieveing wireless network information", then after a few seconds, the screen goes blank and the printer initializes. If I try again, the same thing happens.

I have updated the firmware to 20111215 and i have disconnected the wired ethernet before activating the wireless wizzard.

I have also tried to do a wireless setup from a workstation by temporarily plugging in a usb cable to the printer and running the software to setup the wireless. the software starts up and I get about 40% into the progress bar and the printer continuously initializes as above until i click the cancel button on the workstation.

neither method produces an error message.

I have 4 accessible networks in the area, one being open and three being secured.

I can see the 4 networks clearly on a laptop and i can get to the unsecured network from the laptop, although it brings me to a signon screen requiring that i enter my email address, acknowledge reading the acceptible use policy and click the login button before i can get to a specific web site.

any ideas on what i can do to get out of this loop with the printer going through initializations?.

Hi kiki,

Have you tried Resetting all network configurations to their factory defaults?

Re: cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

Thank you for the reply.

I tried reseting the printer via the following methods:

1. from the printer front panel,

     setup

     network setup

     restore defaults

2. turn off printer power switch

     pull ac plug

     wait 2 minutes

     plug printer back in

     turn on printer power switch

I still have the same problem.

Any other suggestions?

what are my options?

Hi kiki,

Run the steps in the document below to reset all network settings to factory defaults, and then try reconnecting the printer to your network.

Re: cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

can you be a little more specific please.

on the link that you provided, i can find no reference to factory defaults and only one reference to reset - but that pertains to the router, not the printer. exactly what steps do i need to perform to do my reset?

sorry, don't mean to be difficult, i just can't find them.

thanks,

karl

Hi kiki,

Follow the instructions below to reset network settings to default.

1. Press the wrench icon

2. Scroll down to Network Setup

3. Press Restore Defaults

Then try connecting the printer back to your network wirelessly.

Re: cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

Thank you for the reply.

I believe that I have already done that as indicated in the entry above from 02-23-2012 01:44 PM

"I tried reseting the printer via the following methods:
1. from the printer front panel,
     setup
     network setup
     restore defaults"

Is that the same?

I still have the same problem.

Thanks,

Karl

Re: cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

Hi kiki,

Do you have a phone cable plugged into the printer?

When you run the wireless setup wizard you indicate that it keeps going into initializing mode correct?

Have you tried the printer on a different network like your friends or relatives network?

Re: cm1415fnw wireless setup on windows 7 32bit

There is no phone cable plugged into the printer, and when i run the wireless setup wizard i unplug the network cable.

that is correct, when I run the wireless setup wizzard, it keeps going into initializing mode.

There are 4 networks in the building and i can see them all from a laptop next to the printer. The wireless setup wizard does not recognize ANY of them. I was hoping to at least get a selection screen listing the 4 networks.

I have not tried to move the printer to a different set of networks. It is a big heavy printer. Do you think that would help any, if it can not recognize any of the 4 networks in the building?

Hi kiki,

It appears that you are having a hardware failure with the printer. What you will need to do is call our technical support line at 800-474-6836, and explain to them that the printer keeps going into initializing mode when you attempt to run the wireless setup wizard. As long as the printer is still under warranty they will be able to setup a replacement printer for you. If you are outside the US/Canada region, click on the link below to get the support number for your region.
