Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

What printer?

What router?

What operating system?

What have you tried?  What were the error messages?

Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

I have installed a new router (Linksys E4200). However all my attempts to reconfigure the new IP address setting into the printer have failed. The installation software continuously comes back with the message that the computer and printer are logged into different networks (I have removed the old router so this is incorrect) and I cannot seem to get the HP Officejet 8000 to accept the new address. I've pressed all the front panel buttons and even unplugged the printer overnight. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium. Help!

Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

On the printer front panel, go to the Wireless or Network menu and restore network defaults.

Your router is the device that issues IP addresses.  To do this, the router's DHCP service must be active (which is the default setting in home routers).  Have you turned off DHCP?

Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

My printer control panel does not have a display. I have followed HP's web based advice for resetting the printer network setting (holding power buttin and pressing two more buttons 2-3 times) and it doesn work. The printer seems "stuck" with the old IP address.

Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

Oh, my mistake, I was thinking 8500.

The manual lists this for resetting the network settings:

1. Press and hold the Network button (on some models press the Wireless button)

2. Press the Resume button three times, and release the Network or Wireless button.

Re: i cannot connect my printer to the router

Yeah!!! This worked and then I was finally able to reconfigure the wireless settings with my new router's address and successfully establish a wireless connection. Thanks so much!
P.S. The onsite help for resetting network settings is wrong and should be revised to reflect your procedures above.
