j4680 printer

I have trouble with the wireless connection. I can get it to work and use it wirelessly, but it seems when we shut down the printer, or computer, the wireless info is gone and it is not wireless the next time, even though the wireless "light" is on on the printer and computer.

Thanks, Megan

Re: j4680 printer

Are you using a wireless-router or did you create a direct printer-to-computer wireless connecton (also known as an Ad-Hoc connection)?

Re: j4680 printer

I just connected the two with the USB and went through the steps to make it wireless. Does that make sense?

Re: j4680 printer

Do you have a wireless router and are you trying to connect the printer to it?

If not (and you are trying to connect to the printer wirelessly directly from your computer) you will have to set this up every time you want to use it.  It is really not meant for day-to-day printing, only for initial setup to get the printer connected to a wireless router.

Re: j4680 printer

Well, I do have a wireless router, if I were to do it this way, how would I do it? Would I be able to do day to day printing?

Re: j4680 printer

This should walk you through the process.

Day to day printing would work very well with this setup.  You can print from multiple computers no matter how they are connected to your router (wired or wireless).

Re: j4680 printer

OK, when your printer is connected and working is it connected to your wireless router or to your computer (via the 'hpsetup' wireless ID)?

Re: j4680 printer

OK, we need to get it hooked to your router, instead.

You can start on page 4 of the guide and follow the directions.  You will need your wireless SSID (the name it broadcasts) and the password.

Basically you are going to disconnect your printer, insert the installation CD into your computer and follow the directions to install the printer onto your wireless network (infrastructure).  It will ask you to connect a USB cable temporarily during the setup process.

If this does not work it may be because you have already installed the software.  If that is the case, uninstall the software and start over.
