officejet pro l7780 wireless not working since firmware upgrade

Is there a rollback utility for a firmware upgrade?  I upgraded the firmware on my Officejet pro L7780 AIO hoping to fix a scanning problem; however the wireless functionality has since stopped working.  I have tried a static ip - unplugging power, verified that the SSID and Passcode, etc.

The WIRELESS Network Test Report page shows; RADIO ON=PASS, RADIO WORKING =FAIL, ETHERNET CABLE NOT PLUGGED IN=PASS.

The previous Firmware before I upgraded was: R0040xxNxeN0; The current Firmware now installed is: R2011NxNxeN0.

The printer works with an ethernet cable direct to my Netgear Rangemax Wireless router Model WPN824v2; however it seems that I can only access the printer from my wireless laptop through my desktop computer (which is networked via ethernet to router)- and the desktop computer must be powered on.

(PS; Firmware upgrade didn't fix scanning problem)

Just unplug the power cable from the printer while it is on, then press the power button 3-4 times, then plug the cable back in. Check if the report passes now.

Re: officejet pro l7780 wireless not working since firmware upgrade

tinyjo,

I had a similar problem last year when I upgraded to the 2006 firmware. I see you've upgraded to the 2011 firmware, but this might work for you.

Unplug the power and wait one minute. Hold down the # and 6 keys on the keypad while plugging in power. If the printer does not come on, try holding down the # and 6 while pressing the power button. I think I remember way back on the phone with HP last year that # and 6 is called a "semi-reset".

If that does not work try # and 3. I believe that is a full reset. I only remember the codes, and lost my notes on this, so you might want to try Googling "L7780" and "reset" and see if anything turns up.

Okay, now maybe you can help me. I've tried every which way to flash from the previous 2006 to the new 2011 firmware. It sounds like you got that far. I cannot, if you care to read my thread here in the forum. How did you flash, using USB or wired LAN? What operating system was on the machine you flashed from? If XP, was it SP3?

I've tried from several different computers both via wired LAN and USB, and get the exact same errors on each one (described in the other thread). The only thing in common is that they are all XP SP3. The last time I successfully flashed (to 2006 firmware) the machine I was using was still on XP SP2.

Ley me know how you do, and your setup.

Re: officejet pro l7780 wireless not working since firmware upgrade

Hi Jeff,

First thanks for your input, I will try it.

I am running XP sp3, I used USB from the printer to the computer to flash the firmware onto the printer and I did not encounter any issues.  I wish there were a way to rollback the firmware upgrade - because as of now my printer is NOT working via wireless and I wish I had NOT done the firmware upgrade.

There is no fix according to HP tech support and sounds like I need to buy a new printer if I want it to be wireless;  HP also told me that replacement parts aren't available on this printer-nor is a repair manual.  I paid $400 16months ago and I have a problem believing that it cannot be fixed.  I guess I should have invested in an extended warranty.

Re: officejet pro l7780 wireless not working since firmware upgrade

Hi Everyone,

I escalated my tech support to management and after going through some additional tests etc, it was determined that my problem is, in fact, a hardware failure.  HP offered me a refurb replacement for $245 includes tax & shipping both ways, as I mentioned in my last thread, they do not sell parts for this model, therefore, I decided the least of two evils....spending more money & buying new or take the offer...I am taking the offer.

Thanks for all your help.
