I have a similar problem only the PC sees and can print the Mac book sees but thinks the printer is offline, which it isn't. The Mac has to be re-booted  to print. This happens most of the time.

My printer is a HP Officejet 4500 G5610g, connected to a Netgear N900 router. I have no problem accessing the internet with either machine. The netgear has a downloaded program called printshare which must be loaded on each machine. Since both machines, the Mac after re-booting, can both print I don't think that  that is the problem.

Make sure the router has updated firmware.  Restart the router by pulling its power plug momentarily.

What version of OS X?

I am not familiar with printshare - it sounds suspious to me...  Is it also loaded on your Mac?

Thanks!!! I've had this printer for a while and it never worked consistantly - your solution worked and hopefully it will continue to do so.  I had to set the Gateway to the IP of the router (as stated in next post).  Thx again for clear instructions.
