I find it impossible to connect my new C4585 to the wireless router. I follow the installation program step by step, but it ends saying that the process failed.
I'm trying to connect it through a SpeedTouch 580 DSL modem/wifi router, which is around 5 years old. I use a 10-character WPA-PSK (TKIP)passphrase, and I'm 100% that DON'T use MAC filtering, as I can connect not-registered devices without problem. But the wireless network report from the printer keeps saying that MAC filtering is enabled and that it cannot connect.
The SSID is correctly found during the installation (the router does announce it). And there are no other networks with the same SSID around.
The report results (apologies if the fields' name aren't exact, I'm translating from a Spanish report):
wireless activated: OK
wireless working: OK
SSID found: OK
Security: OK
Printer and router configuration match: OK
Filtering: FAILED
connected: not executed
signal intensity: Very low
Other networks with same SSID: No
Detected networks: 7
Channel: Not executed
Exactly the same happens if I change TKIP for AES. Funny thing, if I dissable the security completely (without changing MAC filtering options, only WPA security), the printer does connect and gets a IP address through DHCP. But an open network is not what I look for. This makes me think it's not a MAC filtering problem, but a WPA-PSK problem. But then, why does the report say security is OK and there's a problem with MAC filtering?
I (as many other users, as I see in the forum) bought this printer mainly because of the wireless capabilities, as I have several computers at home and don't want to be plugging and unplugging USB cables all around. If I can't go wireless, this is useless to me.
All help will be appreciated.
EDIT: Although the report claims that signal strength is very low, the router is 30 cm from the printer. Besides, when the security is disabled an the printer does connect, it says that the signal is excellent.
Thx

Let's try to manually connect the printer to your network. Temporarily open your network and get your printer connected. Browse to the printer's internal web page, select Networking than go to the Wireless section.
Manually select WPA1 and TKIP and enter your passphrase. Then select apply. The printer will disconnect from your open network and so the browser won't see the final OK dialog.
Now reenable the encryption on your SpeedTouch wireless-router. Finally power-cycle the printer and see if it connects.
How long is your passphrase and does it contain only numbers and letters?
BTW -- The signal strength indication is only valid if the printer is connected to the netowrk.

Shame on me for not checking the forum for so long. Anyway, I appreciate very much the answer.
Unfortunately, this didn't solve the problem. After changing the network config from the printer's web page and restarting, there's no connection and the network report is the same as before.
The passphrase is 10 characters long, and contains numbers and letters (only). The letters are 'E' and 'D' though, so I'm not sure if they are real 'letters' or HEX numbers
.
As I said in an earlier post, the router is some years old, and I don't know if that may have anything to do with it, but I do know that some weeks ago I bought a new laptop with Vista, and that it was absolutely impossible to connect it wireless. As I didn't really like Vista, I installed XP after a couple of days and suddenly everything went like a charm. Not really sure that this may have anything to do with the problem, but just in case, I feel like mentioning it.
I'll borrow a new router from my workplace and test with it, just to discard options.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.
And again, apologies for the late response and thanks for the answer.

If you have everthing working, I would make the existing printer IP address static and be done. You can do this from the printer's internal web page.
Browse to the printer's internal web page (using its IP address). Select Networking, then select Wireless and then select IPv4.
Enter the existing printer IP address for the Manual IP address.
Enter 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask.
Enter the router's IP address for the Gateway. This is usually the same IP address except that last number group is just 1. For example, if your printer's IP address is 192.168.0.100, the router's IP address is likely 192.168.0.1.

Well, I didn't have the opportunity to test the connection with a new wireless router, I hope I can do it this weekend. Nevertheless I found that I can connect the printer without trouble if I change the security level from WPA-PSK to WEP. Not that I'm completely comfortable with that, but at least I can use the printer and scanner without problems.
I'll post the result when I finally get to test the new router.
