It has been recommended to me to upgrade to an n type router to get faster speeds .I currently have a g type router. They recommend n type. Will n type be compatible with my printer for wireless use?

Sorry, but the printer requires 802.11g. However, you can set up your new router with a mixed-mode of 802.11g/n (which is probably the default).
The g-connected devices will operate at g speeds and the n-connected devices will operate at n speeds.
