Envy 7640 Printer/Scanner/Fax. Windows 10, wireless router, Norton Security. Nothing different from one week ago, but suddenly things don't work! Can print from apps, can scan from printer, but cannot scan from computer. Seems the printer/scanner are working fine, but when I try to reload the driver/software from the HP site (several timers!!) and then try a "test scan" I get a message like "cannot locate printer".

Hi,
Thanks for using the HP Forums.
Please Uninstall and Reinstall the FULL feature software following these steps:
1. Uninstall the software in your computer
Can you try this Uninstaller from Microsoft and then reinstall the FULL feature software again?
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed...
2. Download and save the FULL feature software (do not install it online)
The following resource will help you :
http://123.hp.com/us/en/
Key in your printer model, Operating System and download & install the FULL feature software.
3. Install the FULL feature “Saved” software
How to Scan to Computer
Once you have installed the software:
1. Click on the printer Icon (on your desktop) and it will bring up the HP Printer Assistant.
2. Under the Scan menu, there is a “Manage Scan to Computer”, click on that.
3. Make sure that you “Enable” Scan to Computer. Also make sure the tab “Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log on to Windows” is checked if you want to make this feature permanent. (the following video will show you how)

Hope that helps!

Works just fine - finally!! Had some trouble with the uninstall "clean-up" program. Took a couple of tries with that, but once it worked properly the reinstall of the FULL HP aoftware package worked perfectly!! No more "Cannot locate the printer" messages, and the test scan I di was spot on perfect.
Thanks so much for the assistance, I love this printer/scanner and really am glad my PC is once more treating it with respect!!
