Color Laser JEt Pro MFP M477fd
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite

My new laser Jet has been working fine until I followed the prompts on the printer for an automatic update. Now printing is ruined. Typesetting is outlined in grey, and color photos look bad. This happened DIRECTLY after I said yes to the printer update screen on the printer itself. I have not made any changes to my Mac.

I tried shutting down printer, shutting down computer, then restart printer, then restart computer.

The Configuration Report (can barely read it. ) Says Firmware Datacode: 20160331, which is apparently the most recent printer software for my model.

I am on a Mac running 10.10

Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M477fdw, purchased late 2015.

The printer was so easy to set up, and worked beautifully for the 200 pages I've sent to it so far, until I said yes to an update. Really regret saying yes to that, but I assumed it would work as well as everything else has.

Thank you for your help in solving this.

After trying myriad things, including uninstalling and reinstalling the printer and downloading the newest driver, I called Tech Support. Found the number on the internet, not on HP. 800-334-5144 in case you ever need it. They keep trying to trick you back online, but eventually you get to someone who can help.

When I described the printing results I was getting, she had me do Color Calibration 3x, and Cleaning Page, 3x, which fixed the problem.

The firmware update caused problem with the formatter, is what I *think* she said.

If your printer is working fine... DO NOT let it download an update.

It's been a long time since I've owned a laser printer. Lesson learned. Thank you, Natasha.
