HP OfficeJet Pro 8725
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We bought this HP 8725 on 1-10-17 to replace our HP PhotoSmart 309a. When first installed on our XPS 8700 using Windows 10, 64 bit, it printed perfectly. However, on 1-14-17 and again on 1-28-17 it would not print. We used a HP Support Chat Session and the tech used remote access to correct the problem and reset the system to accept the 8725 as the default printer. It printed fine the rest of that day.

Now again on 2-2-17 we were unable to print a document. When we clicked on the print option, a pop-up message indicated we needed to install a printer.  Using the Print and Scan Doctor we were able to print one page. Then when we tried to print a different document, it would not print again. After having an HP tech "correct" the problem on 1-28-17 and it still won't print on different days, despite messages indicating all drivers were up to date, is this printer faulty and needs to be replaced?

How do you have the printer connected to your network?

Is the connection Wireless or Wired (Ethernet)?

In particular, if the connection is dependent on wireless, assign a Static IP Address and a static DNS server setting to the printer.  Consider doing the same thing for the computer(s) on your network.

Read and follow solutions in this document from the printer Troubleshooting section:

Dragon Document – Help, Suggestions, and Examples

Settings to Improve Wireless Connectivity

Sections, various, including:

  • Static IP Address - Printer
  • Static IP Address - Computer

Lastly, if the connection is breaking on "certain" days, ensure the printer is set up to allow printing "everyday".

When the printer is on the network...

Open your favorite browser > type of IP address of the printer in the URL / address bar >

Settings > Power Management > Schedule On/Off >

Schedule On >> Enabled > CHECK All Days

Schedule Off >> Disabled >

Apply

Picked up a new USB cable for the printer so it would reach our CPU, even connecting it to a different USB port in the back of the computer. Printed several sheets yesterday (2-4-17) and it is working so far. Not planning to use it wirelessly unless it fails to connect tomorrow when we try to print a report.

Your tech set the printer up using the chat session, so all the commands to print everyday, any time of the day is checked. Hopefully the new cable will solve the problem.

Thanks for responding to my question.
