Hi,

I can't find the driver of my old printer (HP Deskjet 840c).

Sorry that didn't work for you.

Since the file was dated from 2006, I was hoping it was good for XP as well.

I scoured the internet and found an XP driver that should work for you.

It is too big to attach, so I have zipped it up and uploaded it to my Skydrive folder and shared the link to it below.

You want to download, unzip and run the file labled 840-enu-xp

See if this works...download and save the 1st file on the list at the link below....I think the driver will work for XP too.

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=Deskjet%20840c

Download and install this free file utility.  The 1st file at the top of the page is for 32 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

After you install 7-Zip, right click on the printer driver file you downloaded, and select 7-Zip from the menu.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  And let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, do the normal steps to add your printer using the add printer wizard.

When asked to install the driver, click on Have Disk, and browse to the driver folder 7-Zip created>prnhp001, and select the HP DeskJet 840C/841C/842C/843C printer from the list, and see if the driver installs that way.

Thank you, but i think that this driver doesn't work for XP... i followed your steps but at the end of the installation it tells me "Unable to install HP DeskJet 840C... Operation could not be completed.".
