Hello @Dave_P1,

I think I found an alternate solution which should help you fix the issue. Try the steps below first:

  1. Press the "Windows logo" key + "R" to get the "Run" window.
  2. Type %temp% and press ok to get the temp folder. Delete all files from this folder (Skip the ones which you cannot delete)
  3. Now http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL33100/cj-82266-2/PS_AIO_07_B110_USW_Full_Win_WW_140_126-... to download the printer driver.
  4. Once the download is completed the files will be "extracted". When the extracting process is completed, the installer will open. Cancel the installer / stop the installer.
  5. Now go back to the temp folder, open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234)
  6. Open the Setup folder and locate the usbready.exe file and rename it into usbready.old.exe
  7. Browse back to the main extraction folder (the folders who starts with 7z) and launch the Setup.exe file.

Let me know if that helps! Good luck 🙂

Hello, @Dave_P1 – Hope you are well 🙂

Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums! I will do my best to assist you with this issue.

I see that you are facing issues while installing your printer over the USB. Going through the error message it looks like an issue with the computer USB drivers. I think you need to update your PC drivers and then try installing the printer drivers.

You can either use the HP Support Assistant to update your computer drivers or you can go to device manager to update the drivers.

To use the HP Support assistant, download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant from the HP Support Assistant website. Go to http://hp.care/2fkV7SH and click on “Download HP Support Assistant to update the current version to the latest version. You can see http://hp.care/2fvNQNc for more details.

You can also update the USB drivers on your PC by going to device manager. You can check the steps here: http://hp.care/2ghp30X

Once the PC is updated, restart your computer and then try to install the printer again.

Let me know how that goes. Good luck!

Cheers 🙂

Hi DVortex,

In my initial request I didn't mention that I was trying to install over wifi.

I followed your advice below with the USB cable plugged in and I still get the same messages. I deleted the drivers and then reinstalled.

The support assistant simply downloaded the same software I had already downloaded.

Note that I also looked at windows update and this failed to find drivers.

I cannot install this over Wifi or with USB. Any further advice please?

Thanks

DaveP

Hello @Dave_P1,

Thanks for the update and appreciate your efforts.

Have you connected the printer to the network? If not, first connect the printer to the network. Follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Wireless button on the front of the printer.

  2. Touch the Right Arrow button to select Wireless Settings, and then touch OK.

  3. Make sure the wireless radio is on.

    • If the blue LED light on the Wireless button is lit, the wireless radio is on.

    • If the blue LED light is not lit, touch OK to select Enable Wireless.

  4. Touch the Right Arrow button to select Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch OK.

The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.

  5. Touch the Right Arrow button to select your network name (SSID), and then touch OK.

  6. If prompted, enter the WPA or WEP key, and then touch the Right Arrow button to select Done. Touch OK to confirm.

You can check http://hp.care/2gCPg7K for detailed instructions.

Once the printer is connected to the network, then try to install the printer on your PC. Disconnect the USB cable if connected and then click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL33100/cj-82266-2/PS_AIO_07_B110_USW_Full_Win_WW_140_126-... to download and install the printer drivers. In the connection type window, choose "Wireless" and then follow the on-screen instructions.

If the issue persists, then try to install the basic printer drivers. You can click on http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL33164/mp-82456-1/PS_AIO_07_B110_USW_Basic_Win_enu_140_12... to download and install the basic drivers.

Let me know how that goes. Good luck!

Cheers 🙂

Hi DVortex,

Thanks for getting back to me. I tried both the downloads and have exactly the same issue.

I have my printer connected to the network and have used it from both my phone and my laptop (windows 8 and 10). I have just carried out a test print from my laptop and this was OK.

NOTE: I am having issues with getting this printer set up correctly on windows 10 and have another ongoing post. I thought it would be easier to get it working on my new computer first what with windos 7 being an older operating system and the printer being pre windows 8.

I also had this printer working on my last PC and lap top which I think was windows 7 or XP and the laptop was vista.

Any further suggestions please?

Thanks

Hello @Dave_P1,

Appreciate your efforts.

Going through your post I understand the issue is only specific to your Windows 7 PC. Looks like some driver compatibility issue with the Windows 7.

I did check with few of my friends and came up with a possible solution. While installing the printer, on the error screen that you have captured, press "Alt" key and then press the "Retry" option. If that doesn't help, try pressing "Ctrl" key and then click on "Retry". (Not sure if it is Alt or Ctrl 🙂 ) You can also try the same exercise on the "Cancel" button instead of "Retry" if that doesn't work.

I know this is a lot of work around, but that's the best I could come up with. Hopefully that helps!

I'll watch for your reply! Thank you 🙂

Hello @Dave_P1,

Appreciate your efforts.

I will definitely ask around and try to make some sense of the text file that was created.

Meanwhile, try the steps that are mentioned in these documents (If not tried already)

Link 1: http://hp.care/2gFAhKz (Try installing the software patch and then try)

Link 2: http://hp.care/2bRTyqa (Try from step 6 onwards)

If the issue persists, then try installing the printer with the basic built-in drivers. Follow the steps in this video: http://hp.care/2dyLzDc (Printer in this video is different, but the steps are same)

Let me know how that goes!

Good luck 🙂

Hi DVortex,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but I've only just needed to print so picked up where I left off.

I followed your steps and i was able to Install the printer and print photos and PDFs!!!! Hooray:smileylol:

The scanning was causing erros though, errors were coming up if I tried to scan from my PC or the scanner. I rebooted the PC and now that seems to be working too 🙂

I have to open solution center from the shortcut icon rather than from the printers window but this does not bother me.

So Happy to have my printer working 100% on at least one of my computers,

I marked your answer as accpeted solution. Sometimes its a really simple thing! just adding ".old" did the trick.

thanks a lot!
