Hi,

The printer is only compatible with Mountain Lion (10.8) or later versions, it is incompatible with your operating system. to get full capabilities I suggest returning the printer and getting a previous model which suports Lion.

You might be able to bypass a such using an Alternate Driver for printing, a such will only offer print capabilities and not advanced features as ink levels, printer management, etc.

To do so follow these steps:

1. Install the following package on your Mac:

     https://support.apple.com/kb/DL907?locale=en_US

2. Connect the printer to your Mac and ensure it is powered on.

3.  from System Preferences > Printers & Scanners click the plus sign and select yoru printer.

4. Click the Use drop down menu and then on Select Printer Software.

5. Select the HP Deskjet 3050 as an Alternate Driver and press Add.

For scanning you may try the 3rd party VueScan software which should be supported on Lion and support your printer:

Hope that may help,
